When you have all the recommended doses of the measles vaccine, protection is nearly 100%. The vaccine also protects against severe symptoms and complications such as pneumonia.

You can take steps to protect yourself and others from measles. Stay home when sick and limit contact with others. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. Wash your hands often with soap and water or sanitizer. Avoid sharing items such as bottles and utensils.
