The closing ceremony was presided over by Rwanda’s Minister of Interior, Dr. Vincent Biruta, who commended the Joint SWAT Training Exercise for strengthening regional security cooperation, coordination, and trust among security agencies across the region. He observed that emerging security threats such as terrorism, organized crime, and cybercrime require highly trained and well-coordinated forces, calling for continued collaboration, partnerships, and capacity-building to enhance sustainable peace and stability. The event was attended by the Inspector General of Police of Rwanda, alongside other Inspectors General of Police from EAPCCO member countries, heads of delegations, and senior security officials.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, @JamesOcaya, has urged officers to effectively apply the skills acquired during a three - week Joint SWAT Training Exercise aimed at strengthening the fight against terrorism and other sophisticated crimes, emphasizing the need for enhanced regional and international cooperation in advancing security. He made the remarks while addressing a select team of officers drawn from the Uganda Police Force who successfully completed the Joint SWAT Training Exercise held at the Counter Terrorism Training Centre–Mayange in Rwanda. The training, conducted from 10th to 28th May 2026, brought together 73 officers drawn from seven EAPCCO member countries, namely Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Liberia, Seychelles, and the Central African Republic (CAR).

. @KawalaRachael "The Police at Old Kampala is investigating a murder incident that occurred on 24th May 2026 at approximately 6:30 PM in Bakuli, Kampala Central Division, Kampala District. The deceased has been identified as Denis, a 34-year-old boda boda rider and resident of Bakuli, Kampala Central Division. Preliminary findings indicate that on the above-mentioned date and time, Denis, who was reportedly an #ArsenalFC supporter, got into a misunderstanding with the suspect, identified only as Musiramu, who is alleged to be a #ManchesterUnited F.C. supporter. It is further alleged that the disagreement escalated into a physical altercation during which the suspect reportedly struck Denis on the head, causing him to collapse and die instantly. Efforts to apprehend the suspect are currently underway. The body of the deceased was conveyed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for postmortem examination as investigations into the matter continue.

The Uganda Police Force Museum today joined other museums in Jinja City to commemorate International Museum Day with a unique exhibition showcasing historical firefighting equipment and Uganda’s emergency response evolution. The exhibition traced the journey of fire protection services in Uganda since 1921, when the Fire Brigade, now the Directorate of Fire Prevention and Rescue Services was established. The displayed equipment reflects over a century of safeguarding lives, property, and communities, while also showcasing the transformation of the Uganda Police Force into a modern, community-centered Service.

Today, I officially closed a two-day training for @Makerere security officers which commenced on 13th May 2026. While addressing the private security guards, I urged them to uphold professionalism, discipline, and ethical conduct in the execution of their duties. I also emphasized the importance of remaining alert and vigilant at all times in order to effectively safeguard lives and property.

OFFICERS’ WELFARE: Directorate of Logistics and Engineering resolves officer’s long-standing shoe size challenge In a touching gesture aimed at improving officers’ welfare and well-being, the Directorate of Logistics and Engineering today handed over two specially made pairs of shoes, size 17, to No. 82378 PPC Olepus Jovian, attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit in Napak District. Since joining the Uganda Police Force, PPC Olepus had faced persistent difficulties in finding fitting police shoes due to his unusually large foot size — a challenge that affected his comfort while executing daily duties. Accompanied by his father, the officer received the shoes from AIGP James Apora, the Director of Logistics and Engineering, at the Directorate headquarters in Kampala. Speaking during the handover, AIGP Apora noted that the officer’s case became one of the most unique welfare concerns the Directorate had encountered, prompting a special order to be made to ensure the officer is fully facilitated to serve comfortably and effectively. “We could not allow one of our own to continue working without proper footwear. His case opened our eyes to the need for advance planning in handling special welfare requirements for officers. I thank him for remaining patient and never feeling neglected by the Force,” AIGP Apora remarked. The Directorate also appreciated the Police Management for continuously prioritizing the welfare of officers, emphasizing that every officer deserves dignity, support, and proper facilitation while serving the country. For PPC Olepus, the delivery of the custom-made shoes was more than just receiving footwear it was a reminder that the institution values and cares for its personnel.

Today, the Embassy of Japan in Uganda reinforced its longstanding partnership with the Uganda Police Force through the donation of seven (7) modern fire trucks under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). The fleet was officially handed over by the Ambassador of Japan to Uganda, H.E. Takuya Sasayama, to @igp_ug1, during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Health Headquarters in Wandegeya, Kampala. While receiving the equipment, the IGP emphasized that the addition of these fire trucks will significantly strengthen the operational capacity of the Police’s Fire Prevention and Rescue Services, particularly in the districts of Tororo, Mpigi, Kiryandongo, Lira, Bundibugyo, Iganga, and Luwero. He noted that this enhancement will improve emergency response times and bolster efforts to safeguard lives and property. “This continued support is a clear demonstration that Japan remains a committed partner in Uganda’s pursuit of safety and human security,” the IGP remarked. He further extended his profound gratitude to the Government of Japan and the Embassy of Japan for their unwavering support to the Uganda Police Force. Over the years, the UPF has benefited from a series of contributions under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) initiative. Notably, these include four (4) fire trucks, one (1) rescue truck, and one (1) command vehicle in 2020; five (5) fire trucks and one (1) ambulance in March 2025, in addition to ongoing capacity-building support.

/ @KawalaRachael "Yesterday 29/04/2026 at about 1500 hours, police at Kabalagala conducted intelligence-led, disruptive operations in Nsambya Central Zone, particularly targeting furniture workshops in Nsambya. This followed public outcry over incidents of phone snatching, muggings, pickpocketing, and other criminal activities in the area. It has been established that many of the suspects disguise themselves as brokers and workers around the furniture workshops. During peak traffic hours, they allegedly engage in snatching valuables and stealing motor vehicle parts such as side mirrors, among others. Following thorough screening, 56 suspects, who have long been on our watch and wanted list, were identified. They will be further processed and arraigned before court.
