How much should we read into form? Using 2018/19 Premier League goalscorer data, post-match xG and pre-match odds I analyse what we can determine from 5GW goalscoring form and how predictive it is compared to match difficulty fplreview.com/2019/08/form-v… #FPL #FPLCommunity

For those panicking already here's a graph I produced based on the data from a sample of 4000 teams last year This is comparing the standard deviation of luck against that of skill (based on odds&xG data). Note in GW2 were still in high distortion territory #FPL #FPLCommunity

📊 Elite 250 Picks 📊 Overall, top managers averaged only 0.16 transfers for GW2, with most opting to save their FT. The most popular player to move on was Moura (-5.6 %), while Pukki was the most common buy ( 2.8 %). Full spreadsheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets…

[2/3] The Elite 250 mainly opted for Salah (77.6 %) as their captain, with a few also picking Sterling (16.4 %) and Auba (4.8 %). Sterling (45.3 %) was a more popular pick than Salah (26.5 %) in the top 10K, likely because many of them successfully captained Sterling in GW1.

[3/3] 4-4-2 was the most used formation (59.2 %). The mean formation was 3.8-4.1-2.1. 4.8 % opted for a back five, with only 13.2 % sticking to the traditional 3-4-3. As the season progresses and people start using their WC, I expect the back 3 to gain in popularity though.

The popularity of 'Bob scored 5 goals in his last 4 games against Team X' stats is bewildering Ran a 10 game trial analysis for a player with an mean xG of a 0.7 ~20%: 0-4 goals ~20%: 10 goals ~60%: 5-9 goals Beware of reading into small sample sizes #FPLCommunity #FPL

A plot which indicates how obsessed FPL managers who created the first ~250k teams (left side of graph) performed better based on FPL points, pre-match odds xPts and post-match xG xPts Also worth noting the average team overperformed by ~15pts this GW #FPL #FPLCommunity
