FSAC, together with Emerson de Luca of @FIATIFTA met with Lucy Exell and her colleagues at the @IATA to review and discuss IATA’s Compassionate Transportation Guidelines and its impact on Canadian shipping of human remains.

Air Canada relies upon guidance from IATA to establish policies and protocols for shipment of remains both domestically and internationally. Significant amounts of information from IATA and Air Canada results from information sources other than professional funeral expertise.

As a result, some policies provide challenges to funeral providers regarding compliance. IATA has agreed to liaise with Air Canada to clarify some misstated information regarding the shipment of human remains. Further collaboration on this and other subjects will take place.
