Nintendo has been hit with a €35 million fine in France over the long-running Joy-Con drift problem affecting the original Nintendo Switch. French regulators said Nintendo knew about the issue as far back as 2018 but failed to properly inform customers and was slow to roll out free repairs across Europe. Authorities also found that some players bought new controllers instead of being directed to repair options, which was deemed misleading. Joy-Con drift has been one of the biggest complaints from Switch owners since the console launched in 2017. Nintendo agreed to pay the fine but said this does not mean it admits any wrongdoing. The company now offers free Joy-Con repairs in Europe, even for some out-of-warranty controllers.
