In 1996, Sheets organized the first gay picnic in the state.
“He didn't see anything that people were doing in the gay community outside the bars. So he decided one day to pay for a [park] shelter and had the first gay picnic. He did it for 15 years at Coonskin.”

Eight years ago today, 49 lives were taken in the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida. That kind of hateful violence is designed to make us live in fear.
But, as @bjoewolf says, our community responded with unapologetic love. Now, we must honor them with action.

A federal judge ruled yesterday that Florida's gender-affirming care ban is unconstitutional and PERMANENTLY blocked the state from enforcing it. This law restricted medically-necessary care for transgender youth AND adults. This decision is a major win! washingtonpost.com/nation/20…

Thank you, Delegate Larry Rowe, for always standing with West Virginia's LGBTQ community! Del. Rowe earned a perfect score on the WV Equality Report Card, which means he hasn't taken a single vote to oppose LGBTQ rights since the report card began in 2021.
