Not just the West AAA, pretty much every region is questionable. Only regions that aren't affected are the South Central AAA and South East AAA regions since those regions only have 1 district represented each (that's another conversation).
The qualification numbers per district in some of the regions are laughable. District 8 AAA gets 3, District 1 AA gets 3, and District 12 AA gets 2/3 a weight. We see guys with losing records and not by 1 or 2, by like 8 or 9 wins. It takes opportunities away from wrestlers that DESERVE to be in the regional tournament, but in the name of "fairness," we compromise with wrestlers who quiet frankly shouldn't be at this level. Not knocking the wrestlers, just the process.
Think of the SoCon (for example), getting 3 AQs to the NCAA tournament, and the Big Ten only gets 6. People would be up in arms about that.
How about seeding? We seed district winners and then fill out a prefilled formula to solve the bracket. Imagine if Mitchell Mesenbrink beats Michael Caliendo at the conference tournament finals, and Mesenbrink gets the 1 seed but the highest possible seed Caliendo could get is the 10 seed because he can't be top 8 cause that goes to conference champs and can't be on the top half of the bracket so now he has to be the 10 seed taking on the 7 and 2 very early in a tournament even though Caliendo is top 3 in the weight. It's a joke.
The AAA West Region brackets are a slap in the face to everyone competing and to the sport of wrestling. This is disgusting. PIAA at its finest. Can’t wait for our live show tomorrow
