The Rural and Family Lands Protection Program is working:
Dixie Ranch West, a 2,996-acre cow/calf operation in Okeechobee County, Florida, has been permanently preserved from development through a rural lands protection easement, in a partnership with the United States Air Force (USAF) Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration (REPI) program for the Avon Park Air Force Range (APAFR), Sentinel Landscape Program. The property provides a natural drainage to the south in the Kissimmee River watershed and Lake Okeechobee, consists mainly of open pastures with interspersed wetlands, forested uplands, and woodland pasture, and it is entirely located within the Florida Wildlife Corridor.
