Lady Vols guard Kaiya Wynn is stepping away from the basketball program, she says in a post online:
Tennessee redshirt senior guard Kaiya Wynn has decided to step away from the program just two days away from the team’s first game in the SEC Tournament.
“The news has now broken that I have decided to step away from the Lady Vol program,” posted Wynn. “This decision was not made lightly or instantly.”
Wynn missed last season to due a torn Achilles tendon, but has appeared in just in nine games this season.
The Lady Vols guard cited the way her Senior Day was handled was her “breaking point.”
“As someone who has never started a career game, l was hoping to start in my last appearance in Thompson-Boling. That obviously did not happen, and to be asked to check into the game with 15 seconds left while losing was not how I wanted to spend my final moments in my arena after five years,” wrote Wynn. “Although that was not the sole reason, it was the breaking point for me.”
The Nashville, TN native averaged 2.6 points and 1.8 rebounds in 102 career games.
