Was an honour and a privilege to work with @Oprah for the past few weeks. This is more than I ever dreamt possible.

โ€œThe function, the very serious function of racism is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work. It keeps you explaining, over and over again, your reason for being... There will always be one more thing.โ€ - Toni Morrison

Itโ€™s a national disgrace that more people donโ€™t know nor care about Derek Bromley. An Aboriginal man still in jail after 36 years for a crime he didnโ€™t commit. See Amyโ€™s thread below and listen podcasts.apple.com/au/podcasโ€ฆ for more info! #BlackLivesMatter is about real Blak Lives!!
This is why you should care Derek Bromelyโ€™s case โ€“ an Aboriginal man who has spent more than 34 years in prison for a crime he says he did not do. Yesterday he was denied permission to appeal his conviction. (1/16)

Father's Day is a good day to remind people that all phone calls and video calls for incarcerated people should be free in every prison and jail across the country. Not just during a pandemic, not just during holidays, not as a special privilege. But for everyone, all year round.

EVERY news conference, Vic journalists repeatedly ask about Black Lives Matter protests, and health officials repeatedly say there is no outbreak stemming directly from the protests, but the media is so damn hungry for the beat-up they still ask about it day after day after day.

Good to see filmmakers issue an apology acknowledging a pattern of whites-only hiring. Would also help if @sydfilmfest and juries abolished all-white judging panels. If you're a white person recruited to whites-only power structures, demand change. This stuff is taxing for many.
To give you an idea of how racist and broken the screen industry is in Australia, here is an extremely current example. (TW: Contains violent imagery against Black people.)

I keep coming back to the #DemystifyingDiversity event earlier this year with @drcbond @alanalentin @DeSouzaRN @KaiyaAboagye and many more. It feels like (Iโ€™d like to believe) weโ€™re having a different conversation now, but relying on paradigms that donโ€™t serve us anymore* *ever
