Imagination is the key to a good life
Without it, you can’t live a life of love, joy, or peace
For you must see a goal to obtain it…
And the imagination is what you use to see these things
Especially when the world you live in is teeming with their opposites
How do you cultivate the imagination, then?
READING is the best way to start.
That’s because reading does for the brain what video does not
Namely, it forces you to generate images in your own mind
Reading makes your brain flex its creative muscles, constructing entire worlds out of the groupings of letters printed on the page before you
This generation of images - a literal act of creation - is what fuels the imagination
And imagination is what inspires
If you want to inspire young boys and girls on to good things, you must first cultivate their imagination
For they can only attain what they can envision
Hand them a book with tales of knights, adventure, and hidden treasure
And don’t fall for the trap of entertaining them with what’s “relatable”
Most media (especially film and tv) today focuses on the uninspiring
They depict broken households and everyday hardships, all in the name of being “relatable”
But contrary to being helpful, these shows do a complete disservice to the budding imagination:
They completely omit any higher ideal or true goodness that’s worth striving for
And this impacts how a child (or even an adult) conceives of the possibilities available to him
It you can’t picture a life where two parents live together lovingly
Where heroes are real
And where difficulties are overcome with dignity…
Then how do you ever hope to live that out in your own life?
To transform your future, you must transform your imagination
The best way to start is to pick up a good book and let your imagination run wild!
