Bit of a full circle βοΈ moment this week as Iβm up in Sheffield for my dysphagia course, 5 years after graduating from @SheffHallamEng, unsure what the future held. So much love for this city β₯οΈ #mysltday
π£οΈ This week our Stroke rehab wardβs communication group theme was #rockingaphasia and we had some brilliant designs! We will be continuing throughout #AphasiaAwarenessMonth & hopefully involving our PT & OT colleagues

How are you keeping track of your dysphagia competencies? I'm starting shadowing and I want to keep a clear log of what I have done. Any handy spreadsheet, ways of noting what I have done quickly while on the wards? #dysphagia#NQP#SALT

A sneak peak of our new monthly #CPD newsletter collated by @Sophie_R54 and distributed to our #SLT team to highlight learning opportunities advertised on social media & SLT stories from the news. Interested to hear how other teams identify CPD opportunities! @UHSHCSAHP@UHSFT
Despite being sweet-talked into it by @fien_bn, Iβm looking forward to leading @UHS_SLT journal club. Would be interested to hear how other teams structure their journal club? π£οΈπ‘ #mysltday
Really enjoyed delivering part of this on Thursday. π£οΈ It was also interesting hearing from one of my colleagues who attended @AcquireSLTβs training on global aphasia last year, which I think will be particularly useful for my upcoming stroke rotation π§
Our brilliant Band 5βs & SLTA delivered our January #CPD session yesterday all about #communication. We explored assessments, strategies for working with cog-comm patients & innovative therapy approaches for global aphasia, plus heard about our fab stroke communication groups π£οΈ
π£ Advocating for patients: Itβs easy to feel undervalued as an #SLT when bed pressures and waiting lists are ever-looming. Being able to advocate for patients & empowering them to advocate for themselves is probably the most rewarding part of my job, which I hadn't anticipated.
I still have so much to learn and with only a couple of months left before rotating to stroke, I'm keen to squeeze as much as I can out of the rest of my acute rotation. If you have any insights, advice, or stories to share from your own experiences, I'd love to hear them!
