This story really blew up. I think it struck a nerve in the current environment. The previous owner of the clinic told me that back in the day they would be thrilled with 4 - 6 applicants. It is so, so tough for job hunters at the moment. rnz.co.nz/news/business/5707…

One of my bunnies is so cute but so angry. The only thing she really loves is Teddy, the other bunny. If the weather’s bad I have them indoors at night and then move them back outside when the weathers good. She spends the whole time growling and trying to bite me 🐰🐰😈

Just an example of how depressed the job market is in NZ at the moment. We got 455 applicants for a receptionist role at our vet clinic. That doesn’t include the people that emailed us directly, not through the Seek ad. Totally overwhelming. We’re can’t even read that many CVs.

Toby has recovered from his desexing surgery this week. Still happy to give nurses kisses despite them being involved in removing his family jewels

The face of a boy who didn’t listen to dad and played in the black stinky mud at the park necessitating a cold hose down, shampoo and conditioner when he got home. He’s a good lad though, he holds each leg up to be washed without being asked

Getting solar installed at the clinic. Toby is being a big help but very confused about why voices are coming from our roof cavity. Hoping the solar helps with our monthly power bill. Very much looking forward to charging my electric car with sunbeams.

Someone is impersonating me on X. So if you get a DM that looks like it’s from me, no you didn’t. Sorry if it’s a hassle. I’ve reported the offender so hopefully they’ll get taken down. Why anyone would want to impersonate my lame account is beyond me. Probably some bot.

One thing we get at the clinic quite often is animals handed in who are stray but clearly someone’s pet. We hold onto them and try and track down the owners but if we can’t we have to eventually rehome them with staff or a member of the public. Like this absolute cutie.

It’s great that we found a new home but someone is missing their pet. Please microchip your pets and make sure the chip is REGISTERED to the online database. Then we find you super fast. We once reunited a dog with an owner who wasn’t yet aware the dog had escaped her yard!

Uniquely Finnish traffic obstruction up in northern Finland. Slowed us right down. Got to be vigilant driving Finnish roads - tons of reindeer and we saw lots of reindeer babies as well. Also I drive 2000km in our rental car, no hills! 🇫🇮 is flat as hell. #Finland

We’ve been away in Finland seeing our daughter. Toby goes to live with one of the vets from work when we’re away. He loves her and she loves him, so that works really well for everybody. We went to Finland, Sweden and Estonia. Saw a lot of reindeer!

After an animal is euthanised we usually make paw prints for the owner. This client had the paw prints incorporated into an amazing tattoo. He’s also an incredible dog owner. He adopts rescue dogs from some pretty unhappy lives and gives them a 10/10 life.

Our rabbits always get a treat when they come up to the edge of the enclosure. So Teddy, who has a very smooth brain, now demands treats from anything that comes up to the enclosure. Even Toby.

Had a weird case recently. Dog comes in with hair loss, agitated, eating more, weight loss. We do bloods. Dog has an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). This is super rare in dogs. I can’t remember diagnosing another case that wasn’t a dog getting an overdose of thyroid meds.

So what I would say is avoid really boutique food manufacturers - they often don’t have the experience and can inadvertently make food that is not balanced or has far too much of one nutrient. Go for big brands or carefully vary the diet across a few brands.
