"Men are responsible for 96% of murders."
You actually can't know that, because there is no centralized data base for murder convictions. Only *federal* murder convictions, of which many murders don't meet the standard for Federal charges. The rest, including manslaughter, are prosecuted at state level.
For example, murder in the US carries an average 60% clearance rate. Meaning 60% of murders are cleared either through prosecution or another means. The average murder trial lasts 2 years. So we see in 2022 there were 21,939 murders. But in 2024 there were 274 convictions. Exonorations not subtracted bc year of conviction is unknown.
Like it or not, that's 21,665 murders not tallied in your Federal offense stat that claims men commit most murders. Of those, 12,999 had clearance.
