Last week, three projects spent a day at @DTUtweet working through the challenges of biowaste valorisation and found more common ground than expected. If you'd like to know more, the blog is right here 👇🏼

It’s our third anniversary today!
After three years of selecting, producing and testing biochar-digestate combinations, FENIX is entering its final stage: consolidating field and pilot-scale evidence to assess the long-term performance of the formulations developed so far.
Last week, we met in Copenhagen for our 7th GA. As the project enters its final year, the focus is on validating biochar-digestate formulations at pilot scale and under real-world conditions. We reviewed progress and planned next steps. More updates soon.
How does a four-year EU-funded project actually come together? How do you structure the early phases, and when do results start appearing? If you want to see our steps and processes, we have put together a timeline to share with you.
Here we introduce our French site in Dourdan. Silty, slightly compacted, with phosphorus dynamics that do not appear to follow expected pH patterns.
We are running four biochar-digestate amendments under real field conditions to see what changes. Swipe through for a closer look.
We tested 40 biochars from two waste streams across five lab-scale campaigns to see how they affect methane production in anaerobic digestion. The key takeaway: not all biochars perform equally, and lower doses can outperform higher ones.
Soil is the foundation of life, but decades of overusing agrochemicals and unsustainable farming have depleted it.
FENIX offers a sustainable, eco-friendly, and cost-effective solution.

Decades of agrochemicals & unsustainable farming have degraded our soils, fueling erosion, biodiversity loss & rising costs. @Fenix_ProjectEU combines biochar & digestates from renewable gas into a natural soil amendment, boosting fertility, water retention & microbial life.
We’ve already introduced our test sites in Spain and Greece, both shaped by Mediterranean climates and their specific soil challenges.
We now want to introduce you our French test site:

We think we’ve found the secret to healthier soils, and lower emissions!
But to be sure, we’re testing how biochar affects soil in real-world conditions.
Curious how it works? Read more below.
On Feb 11, @Soilutions_eu, Bin2Bean and FENIX hosted a webinar on turning biowaste into soil improvers. Experts shared results from across Europe. 80 participants joined.

Digestate is a subproduct from anaerobic digestion. It's rich in minerals and elements essential for plant growth. However, it is often considered low-value
In FENIX Project EU, we make digestates more valuable, by mixing them with biochar to formulate an amendment product.
FENIX is testing biochar–digestate mixtures across different soil types to evaluate their potential as soil amendments. We are also studying how biochars from pyrolysis affects anaerobic digestion, biomethane production, and plant growth. Stay tuned!
The FENIX Project has field sites across Europe where we evaluate our biochar-digestate mixture and its potential as a soil improver.
A few weeks ago we introduced our Spanish soils. Today, we are taking you to Greece.

We had the pleasure of attending BIO360 on February 11 & 12 in Nantes, France.
This year, FENIX shared space with @CIRAD, where François Pinta from @biowooeb was able to share the project with attendees.
We’re thankful to everyone who stopped by!
We’ve analyzed soils from 3 test sites in southern Spain to determine how the soils’ physical, chemical, biological characteristics differ. The soils told us a story, and with that we’re painting a picture of how they’ll respond to our biochar-digestate mixture. More below!
On Feb 11, with bioSOILUTIONS, we hosted a webinar on how biowaste valorization drives innovation, improves soil health, and supports sustainable circular value chains.
If you missed it, you're still in luck. Watch the recording at the link below!

Last month, the FENIX consortium came together in Barcelona for our 6th General Assembly, hosted by Inveniam Group.
Watch the recap video below for a glimpse of the discussions, teamwork, and shared vision driving the FENIX project forward!
In our new FENIX blog, we share the first insights from the initial soil characterisation in southern Spain — from olive groves to avocado orchards and an abandoned cereal field. The soil improver is already applied and monitoring is underway. Read here project-fenix.eu/a-journey-t…
The year is off to a busy start! We’re teaming up with @Bin2Bean & @bioSOILUTIONS for a joint webinar on “Biowaste-to-Soil Improvers: where Technical Innovation meets Social Impact.” 🌱♻️
