ALT A quote from Versus Arthritis CEO, Liam O'Toole: The figures for August confirm our fears that the NHS’ ability to carry out planned surgery were still way below pre-COVID levels, and that worryingly targets for re-starting surgery are not being met by NHS Trusts. We are extremely concerned by the performance in trauma and orthopaedics – which includes hip and knee joint replacements – which have over half a million people waiting for life-changing surgery. Hundreds of thousands of people face a bleak winter left waiting in excruciating pain and their health deteriorating. Versus Arthritis calls for credible plans to bring down joint replacement waiting times safely, along with clear communication to people about when they can expect to be treated.
