Found this amazing 🌳 at the @nationaltrust Ashridge estate. Always astonished by the incredible resilience of nature to still find a way to thrive, even when it seems impossible.
If Holly (Ilex aquifolium) finds its leaves are being nibbled by deer, it switches genes on to make them spiky when they regrow. So on taller Holly trees, the upper leaves (which are out of reach) have smooth edges, while the lower leaves are prickly 🤙
When will we learn 🤷♀️ ancient oak trees support over 2,000 species & are irreplaceable, planting saplings does not mitigate the impact. Why do we protect ancient buildings but not ancient trees?!

Planting trees is something I’ve always been passionate about, there’s something special about planting something that has the potential to live for hundreds of years, long after we’ve returned to the earth, to me it feels like a prayer to the future & a gift to the earth.

I used to love twitter but beginning to feel like I’m just talking to myself posting here, anyone else feeling the same? It used to be my go to community if I had a nature question or needed help with ID of a plant or bird, feeling sad that doesn’t seem to work now.
I've been quiet as I've been out of the studio recovering from a torn retina. 3 operations & 4 months later I'm back. This capercaillie is almost finished for @swlanaturaleye next month. I hope I've still got followers! #metalsculpture#SWLA60@ChrisGPackham

We are shocked and desperately saddened to learn that the famous Sycamore Gap tree at Hadrian's Wall has been felled overnight, in what appears to be an act of vandalism.
We know just how much this iconic tree is loved locally, nationally and by everyone who has visited.
We are working with our partners to understand what has happened and what can be done.
The incident has also been reported to the police.
ALT Sycamore Gap. A tree grows between two small hills on a summer's day.
My best friend’s cousin has been missing for two days. Last seen in the Stockport / Manchester area.
If you’re from those parts (and beyond!) it would be hugely appreciated if you could share and help get the word out.
