It was fantastic to be in Parliament last night with our President Jill Scott MBE to discuss the huge importance of protecting parks, playing fields and green spaces for local communities and the threats posed by the Government’s proposed planning reforms.

Great to catch up with football hero Jill Scott MBE recently to discuss support for playing fields and grassroots sport. The government is planning to strip away the statutory consultee rights of @Sport_England which could make it easier for our playing fields to be built on. We @Conservatives oppose this move, as do the @FieldsInTrust and many other respected sports organisations.

I meet Jill Scott MBE last week, she is bringing her leadership from the pitch to Parliament to champion playing fields and green spaces. Labour’s changes to planning rules threaten these vital community assets and sideline key protections. We need the right homes in the right places, but that must not come at the cost of access to sport and recreation. Build on brownfield, not playing fields.

Great to meet with @FieldsInTrust and @JillScottJS8 to review the Liverpool Fields In Trust initiative first launched in 2018 by the late Chrissie Byrne, myself & Save Calderstone Park Campaigners. But let’s be clear - progress on placing 100 of our city’s precious green spaces into trust for public use in perpetuity has been far too slow. It’s now crucial that @lpoolcouncil steps up, honours its commitments and delivers on the promises made to campaigners, to @FieldsInTrust, and to the public, myself and the much-missed Chrissie.
