As Crypto currencies continue to gain popularity in Israel, the Bank of Israel has teamed up with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority to begin testing a new CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency).

They plan on using a two tier central bank currency in which the Central Bank issues the coin and distributes it to financial intermediaries, allowing its customers to experience less risk, more liquidity, lower cost, and wider access.

The Bank of Israel is working with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority on a trial which will test a new digital currency, including against cyber security risks, the Bank of Israel said.
