If I compare what it was like being a founder in 2021 to now, it really is incredible how much stuff you can get done. Five years ago, building a product meant spending weeks on things that now take hours. Design, support, marketing, data, documentation - every task required so. much. time. Today, we're able to build @FinWiseApp as two people and compete against some pretty big competitors and get great feedback for having a better product and better customer experience. Not because the work has disappeared, but because we've doubled down on making ourselves as efficient as possible. As founders, we now have access to an almost unlimited supply of tools that help us move quickly, so it's been interesting over the last few months having to adapt our strategy to match our output speed. Of course, distribution, trust, quality and execution still matter. AI hasn't changed that. But it has dramatically increased the leverage available to small teams. It's a pretty remarkable time to be building. Below is a photo from 2024 when @FinWiseApp had less than 50 users!

We're launching updated charts in the @FinWiseApp mobile app this week. Customise what you see on your Overview and get deeper insights into your spending, income, cash flow, net worth, and more. Our goal is simple: make it easier to understand your money, spot trends, and make better financial decisions. Available on iOS and Android later this week.

A year ago, @FinWiseApp had next to no users. We're still tiny, but seeing the growth curve continue to accelerate is incredibly motivating. Building a consumer finance product as a small bootstrapped team is hard. Banks break, data providers have issues, support never stops. There are always more features to build than hours in the day. But every month more people choose @FinWiseApp, stay with us, and tell others about it. More mentions on social media posts, more trust in where we are going. We're spending a lot of time thinking about how to get @FinWiseApp into the hands of more people who need it. Still a long way to go, but grateful for everyone who's been part of the journey so far.

Even though @FinWiseApp is still very small, our growth has been accelerating month on month. An obvious value add was adding our mobile app at the end of 2025, and this year doubling down on better support, user engagement and banking syncing in South Africa. Trying to build a community while shaping the product has been surprisingly difficult this year, and I find myself stretched with too many priorities. But as I reflected earlier this week, being overwhelmed by too much work is much more fun than being overwhelmed because no one wants your product 😁
