Mum of three; loves open spaces. Preston LD councillor, wine drinker, with a strong sense of what needs to be put right in the world. All views are my own.
Now that my last local resident follower has found me on Bluesky, I will no longer be routinely using this X account. You can also find me on Facebook using Fiona Duke Liberal Democrat. @PrestonLibDems Working for you, with a democratic conscience, all year round.
Good news! Lancashire County Council have inspected the damaged grass verge on Greystock Avenue, and have said that they will carry out remedial works.
Evidence of your Local Lib Dem team working hard for you on county council issues.@PrestonLibDems

Four blocked drains reported on Manor Avenue today. They were completely blocked with soil, so not a new problem. I got a few funny looks when taking photos though!

I got some lovely feedback today from a gentleman who was at his wit's end about dog fouling outside his home.
Apparently I have done an "excellent job as a councillor", and the Preston City Council street cleaning team have been "absolutely first class"

Now my knee is getting a bit better, I am out and about spotting things that need attention in our community. Today I reported that there is lots of bird poo on the bench on Garstang Road near Parklands Drive junction. Hopefully PCC will get that cleaned up soon
@PrestonLibDems
ALT Bench with bird poo making it unusable. The bench is set on cobbles and is surrounded by green shrubbery. Next to Howard House residential home.
Problems with buses and the cost of school coaches has been flagged at full council as being a growing problem. Many of you have shared the problems you have faced with late, missing buses and some that just drive straight past you. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c2eg…@PrestonLibDems
I added an amendment to a Labour group motion, which they graciously accepted, calling for a cross-company ticket and live location app. This would make multi-ticket journeys cheaper, and enable us to switch between bus companies if our chosen bus fails to turn up.
Stagecoach and Preston Bus are coming to our Overview and Scrutiny Management committee in March where, as vice chair, I will be asking for their input on residents concerns.

The next Cadley & Greyfriars Police and Community Together meeting will be held at 18:30 on Tuesday 28 January at St Martin's parish hall on Martinsway. Our local police officers will give us a crime update, and will be happy to answer your questions. Local councillors attending
I have received two complaints today about bags of rubbish that have been dumped in the watercourse at Levensgarth Park. I have reported this to the Environment Agency and to Preston City Council. Hopefully it will be shifted before the next storm comes in. @PrestonLibDems
ALT Map of location of rubbish in Levensgarth Park
Dumping rubbish in watercourses isn't just unsightly, it can also cause a blockage and increase flood risk. And depending on what's in the rubbish, environmental harm can also be caused.
For info, environmental incidents can be reported to the Environment Agency on 0800 807060
It's been a very wet night in Lancashire with 65 flood warnings still in place. Although river levels are now dropping, it is advisable to avoid walking near rivers, and not to drive through flood water. Please note that just 30cm of water can float your car. @PrestonLibDems
If you have been impacted by flooding please inform Lancashire County Council on enquiries@lancashire.gov.uk FAO Flood Risk Management team. They will feed this into a report on this flooding incident.
Lots of information about flooding can be found on thefloodhub.co.uk
A planning application has been submitted to change the former newsagents on Broadway to a pizza takeaway. The proposed opening times are 16:30 to 22:30. Please view and comment using the planning portal. I can't see anything about signage in the application. @PrestonLibDems
Team Greyfriars were out and about today delivering letters/leaflets. I have also been following up on casework sent to us from the community surveys. Mainly for LCC led issues, but also quite a bit of dog poo to report to PCC on Longfield today. preston.gov.uk/article/7666/…
That's the last of my Greyfriars community surveys out now. It's always nice when you knock on a door and they say "Hello Fiona!" before you even introduce yourself. No casework today - it's my neighbourhood so regularly checked! And now for a nice relaxing evening with friends

I am relieved that the Assisted Dying bill has passed the first reading. I believe we should be afforded a choice on how we die, rightly with a lot of safeguards in place. Having the ability to die with dignity is an important milestone in our civilised society. @PrestonLibDems
I have been off all social media and podcasts since the Trump win as I just couldn't face listening to any of the commentary. Now back and amazed at how many of us are moving to Bluesky. Now very much back in action and posting on Facebook, Bluesky and X (perfunctory X use now).
