I'm so excited to finally be able to share this with you all. It's a zine, with poetry and practical tips for newly sick and disabled people. Let me tell you about it! 1/ #NEISvoid #DisabilityCommunity #ChronicIllness #WritingCommunity #PoetryTwitter

Solidarity this Hogmanay to the women raised in Scotland with chronic illnesses whose brains are currently screaming that the house HAS TO BE SPARKLING CLEAN BY THE BELLS OR TERRIBLE THINGS WILL HAPPEN and who've agreed with themselves putting out the recycling counts the same.

At a time when social care is chronically underfunded, and many Disabled people are unable to afford essentials, this legislation sends a chilling message: the government prioritises the right to die over the right to live. Full statement: disabilityrightsuk.org/news/…

Imagine a world where disabled people didn't have to spend all our (often limited) energy fighting for treatment, for care, for access, for our lives. The fight goes on.

As a reminder, that does not mean the bill has become law, but it allows it to continue for further parliamentary scrutiny with the backing of the elected chamber. We will never give up fighting ✊

If this debate has confirmed anything, it's that the Bill's main proponents, and especially those who co-signed it, totally fail to understand what they're asking Parliament to legislate for.

Devastated about what this means for our lives & communities. Sending love & solidarity to all the sick & disabled people who’ve shared their insight, experiences & fears! But particularly holding @thelizcarr @TheNotDeadYetUK & @Dis_PPL_Protest in my heart. #AssistUsToLive

I'm also never going to understand why this ridiculous country just allows people to lie in Parliament. The author of the Bill repeatedly lied during this debate, giving the impression that safeguards have worked fine everywhere else, that access has never been expanded.
God, imagine a world where disabled people didn't have to spend all our (often limited) energy fighting for treatment, for care, for access, for our lives. The fight goes on.

I am so sorry, first and foremost for the people of Britain. But selfishly also for those of us in Canada hoping you saw us and said 'hell no.' To bring in assisted suicide *after* watching what's happening here...leaves no doubt about how little value is placed on our lives.

If the NHS wasn’t on its knees If care and community services were adequately funded If the DWP supported Disabled and dying people sufficiently …but this Bill is not right and our society is so far from where it needs to be. Vote NO ❌ #AssistUsToLive

Kim Leadbeater keeps getting key aspects of her bill wrong. Is it ignorance or malice? There have been so many that I’m not sure plausible deniability can be argued here
A very important untruth from @kimleadbeater, who says: “Not one jurisdiction which passed laws on the basis of terminal illness has expanded its scope.” BBC report on Canada: “Legislation introduced...in 2016 was initially just for the terminally ill.” bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cgr0….

This is a very moving speech by Florence Eshalomi @FloEshalomi. Speaks of her mother who had a disease who was going to kill her eventually, but who wanted to live. True freedom only exists if you have a choice in life.

Sian Berry @sianberry supports the bill - she says that the bill should be expanded at the next stage. Do you remember Kim Leadbeater saying her bill can never be expanded? The bill hasn't had its second reading yet and we are already on the bloody slippery slope!

Jess Asato @Jess4Lowestoft: every week we hear of judges not correctly identifying coercive control. Where is the gender analysis in this? 100% of anorexia assisted suicides in the world were for women. I am voting against.

Disabled people today get to learn whether their MP is worth approaching for disability related issues, or whether they just think that legalising killing us with no scrutiny, no autopsy, and complete immunity for those involved in the killing is acceptable.
