Always striving to get better. HPFFA members recently had the opportunity to complete the IAFF Responding to the Interface Train-the-Trainer course, preparing them to teach fellow Houston firefighters the strategies and tactics needed to protect homes, neighborhoods and other structures during wildfires. That capability matters in Houston, where several communities sit within wildland-urban interface and intermix areas. Earlier this year, the Caddo Fire burned more than 200 acres in northeast Houston. This was the fifth RTI course held in Texas. So far, 113 instructors have been trained toward a statewide goal of more than 200. Thank you to the @IAFFofficial and lead instructor Johnny Davidson of Round Rock Local3082.

Mayor John Whitmire has proclaimed today, June 9, 2026, as Captain Andy Roseborrough and Dr. Jyothi Lagisetty Day in Houston. Roseborrough, a captain with @HoustonFire, and Lagisetty, an emergency room physician at @memorialhermann Southwest Hospital, were visiting the Teotihuacan pyramids in Mexico when gunfire erupted nearby. After hearing calls for help, they ran toward the danger and provided lifesaving care to two shooting victims until Mexican first responders arrived. Their courage, compassion and commitment to helping others reflect the highest ideals of public service. This is a well-deserved honor for two extraordinary public servants. New data confirms what Houston firefighters experience every day: Call volume is climbing, resources are stretched and response times are suffering. An IAFF analysis presented today to Houston City Council’s Public Safety Committee found: • Fire calls have increased 34% since 2018 • EMS calls have increased 21% • HFD engines met the national four-minute response standard just 29% of the time • The department needs additional stations, engines, ladder trucks and ambulances to meet Houston’s growing demand This report is a wake-up call for Houston. Shortly after 7:30 a.m., HFD responded to a call of a woman on a pillar near Buffalo Bayou. When crews arrived, she jumped in. HFD Rescue put a boat in the water, used their drone to locate her, and made the save. She's stable at Ben Taub. Quick work by all on scene. #HoustonFire
