In my opinion, much of the graphic appeal of Mutation Nation comes from the skill of Ryushiro Miyazaki, who handled the pixel art for many of the enemies and boss characters. Before entering the game industry, he worked as an animator and was active on various projects, including Kinnikuman.
That’s why I believe Mutation Nation ended up with enemy characters that move in such distinctive, expressive ways. When the Tokyo development studio was closed, he chose to stay in Tokyo rather than move to Osaka. I wanted to learn more from him, so I felt very disappointed at the time.
After that, he went on to do great work at other companies on a variety of titles, including Landstalker and Alundra 2.
