That’s a wrap on the 2026 Lake Sturgeon setline survey in the St. Clair River! Ended with 75 total sturgeon captures, with 50 of those being fish we tagged for the first time.

Northern Madtom (state endangered species in Michigan) stole the show today during our sturgeon setline survey in the St. Clair River! 56 caught on the day, including 34 at one site and 20 in one minnow trap! These are all new records for this survey!

Apparently today was #TagReturnTuesday for our Lake Sturgeon survey on the St. Clair River! 5 of our 8 sturgeon were recaptures, including these two which had previously received acoustic telemetry tags. You can see the fully healed incisions.

Today we were back out on Lake St. Clair for our annual spring forage trawl survey. Yellow Perch dominated the catch, with many Rainbow Smelt being caught as well. Also caught was a surprise Lake Sturgeon!

We were out on #LakeErie today tagging Yellow Perch with acoustic telemetry tags as part of a collaborative study between agencies from each state/province around the lake. Each fish also has an external tag.
