1/2 Early detection matters! Recently, a Grass Carp was captured in #ON’s Grand River during routine surveillance by our Invasive Carp Program. Testing at our laboratory in #Burlington confirmed it was a sterile male, meaning it cannot reproduce.

Our fishery officers will patrol over 15,000 km of high seas over two months onboard the CCGS Sir Wilfrid Laurier, and will inspect fishing vessels to check for compliance with regulations.

We are aware of an entangled North Atlantic #RightWhale observed in the Gulf of St. Lawrence near Shippagan, #NB. The whale was spotted on June 8, 2026, by aerial surveillance.

We are working with our Marine Mammal Response partners to relocate the whale. If it is located again, and weather and sea conditions allow, efforts will be made to remove any gear from the animal.
