Thank you so much @PyroScience for sponsoring our new project called FieldResp🥳 We were dreaming of building a field #respirometry station for years. Now, due to your cutting-edge DO sensors that can be easily integrated with open electronics modules, all our dreams come true!

Great customisation of PumpResp, @hugomflavio! Here you might see the beauty of open electronics. If an open hardware device partly matches your experimental needs, just modify it: add or replace components (e.g. buttons or connectors), change the code and make a nice enclosure!

Great discussion, #respirometry folks! @hugomflavio, you are definitely a customization genius! I will be glad to implement your mods in our tools😎 @respR_pkg, being your friendly rival is honor for me! You clearly demonstrate how competition in #opensource should look like🤗

Presenting my own prototypes in open electronics and sharing projects of other research engineers are essential parts of my R&D life. Here, I demonstrate the latest open-source inventions designed for biologists at @TampereUni (Finland).

NOTE, the company @Pyro_Science is our sponsor! Please do not mix two similar accounts up as I did in the previous tweet🤦

We have finally reached the point when the hardware development & testing stage is over. It is time for creating assembly instructions and writing a methodological paper. Stay tuned🐠#respirometry NOTE that the modules PumpResp and SwimResp are @Pyro_Science-friendly as well😉

6/6: These tests were done on an almost entirely home-built #respirometry system, with pump controllers by tech wizard @Morozov_science (@FishResp)(photos), and with 3D printed chamber parts from @HeidrikurB. Check their stuff out if you're interested in home-built systems!

Wow! @Pyro_Science, one of the best sensor manufacture company, is on Twitter now!!! We have used their DO sensors in our DIY #respirometry systems: really robust probes, meters and software. Highly recommended!

About suitability of these 1$ pumps for #respirometry experiments. Last summer, we measured SMR of >400 salmon juveniles using them. Over this period, we replaced 14 pumps due to minor power fluctuations not seriously affected DO traces. Thus, we assembled a new kit for 2022!🐟
Achievement unlocked: 12 hours of soldering on the terrace from dusk till dawn! P.S. it wouldn't be possible to do without Tapi, my fluffy mentor. #soldering #solder #pump #arduino #electronics

Our DIY respirometry system has been successfully tested with Atlantic salmon (300-500g) at @LammiStation Recipe: 1) pump controller 'PumpResp' 2) DO meter 'SensResp' and sensors 3) four 8L-chambers 4) two weeks for assembly 5) total budget: 1500$ #respirometry #fishsci #salmon

Massive DO probe calibration📊📈📉 ⁉️Have you ever used Atlas Scientific DO sensors? If yes, please let me know, I need your advice🆘 Bonus question: how many sensors are in the photo?😉 #openelectronics #respirometry #aquaculture #hydroponics #arduino at @LammiStation

Welcome to our YouTube channel🐠 The first video introduces #respirometry system that costs 1/3 of the cheapest commercial alternative. Some homemade fish jazz was used as video background, so turn ON sound if you are curious about it🦈🎸🎹 Youtube link: youtu.be/hp2pTmOhZE8

These four homemade #respirometry chambers cost less than 200€ in total one week of work. They are suitable for fish from 0.5g to 500g and have a robust design. A commercial alternative for the same kit: >3000€ That is how #DIY approach releases money for actual research🤑

We used these 5-12V DC pumps for #respirometry experiments last summer: an amazing price/quality ratio comparable to #Eheim products. amazon.com/Cooling-Miniature… But, 3.3-5V submersible pumps are still needed, @EHEIM🧐 #fishsci #hydroponics #aquaponics #aquaculture
50 pumps ran simultaneously over three days accumulating 1000 power cycles without any issues: amazing pump for 10$ pcs. Highly recommended! amazon.com/Cooling-Miniature… P.S. thanks Arduino Uno for controlling them. #waterpump #arduino #aquaponics #hydroponics #fishsci #respirometry
