Um, they are aware this is not cash, right?
If Elon sold 5% of his stake to raise the cash to pay the tax, it would crash the stock.

THIS is exactly why socialism never works.
There is no one in the government, and especially in the US Senate, smart enough to know how much money someone else should earn.
In America, the sky is the limit. We don’t impose a 100% tax on earnings above a level set by the government.
Socialists do that. And that’s why there are no trillionaires, billionaires or rich people in socialist countries. Everyone is in poverty together, except for people in government. They’re the only rich ones.
Elon Musk just became the world’s first trillionaire.
Let’s make sure he’s also the last.

Elon Musk has continued to state that he paid more than $10 billion in taxes in a single year, 2021, primarily federal income taxes triggered by exercising Tesla stock options and selling shares. Multiple outlets described it as one of the largest individual tax bills in U.S. history.
According to reporting based on leaked IRS data, Musk paid about $455 million in federal income taxes on roughly $1.52 billion of reported income over a five year period, 2014-2018. Today, Elon Musk, a trillionaire, pays the same amount into Social Security as someone making $184,500.
If we end that absurdity and lift the cap on taxable income, we can make Social Security solvent for 75 years and expand benefits by $2,400. My Social Security bill does that.

I think you missed the plot.
Then again, that’s becoming a pattern.
I graduated from West Point.
I went through Army flight school.
I learned to fly the AH-64 Apache.
I deployed to combat and flew 55 combat missions over Baghdad.
Nobody handed me a cockpit because of my skin color.
Nobody lowered the standards for me.
Nobody looked at me and said, “Let’s check a diversity box.”
That’s what people like you don’t seem to understand.
Suggesting that Black pilots, Black engineers, Black doctors, or Black leaders need special preferences to succeed is not empowering, it’s insulting.
I didn’t want a different standard.
I wanted the same standard.
And when you’re flying into combat, the American people don’t care what race the pilot is.
They care whether the pilot is qualified.
Merit isn’t racist.
Excellence isn’t discriminatory.
And reducing every achievement to skin color says far more about your worldview than it does about mine.
