Awesome example of high level course management
Drivable Par 4: A lesson in Dispersion.
This is 17 at Colorado National my home course.
It is a drivable par 4, here is how I play it.
The green circle is where the large majority of my dispersion will land with my driver. The white, the occasional foul ball.
No matter where the pin is that back bunker, left side of it is my target.
It allows me to just stand up there and hit it.
When you choose a target that allows for both sides of your dispersion then you can just stand up there and hit it knowing statistically it is going to be up there within that green circle.
I will often see people, move it right to avoid the water.
The problem is now you shift your right side of the dispersion into the long native grass right of the green.
You will often over correct because your subconscious knows that and hit it in the water anyways.
Pick something in the middle of it, step up there and swing freely.
