Everyday Struggle was lowkey the best thing going. If Joe and Ak could reboot have an equivalent focused more on the up and coming sector, that’d be fire. Maybe even a section that was more R&B centric. That First Take approach between generational perspectives was golden.

Seeing convos about artists’ experiences with labels and disconnects in regards to brand/vision.. the comments are all sarcastic and whatnot about how labels only entertain stereotypes etc but the reality is if consumers were showing up for these artists there’d be no resistance.

That said, I’m not saying the experience wasn’t challenging for them.. or even disjointed to some degrees. But I’ve sat in these rooms, on calls, had dinners, traveled the country to advocate for and support some of these folks. And know some label folks who really rode for them.

The part you don’t be hearing about is bad / inexperienced / uncooperative management teams. Poor money management. Lack of actual direction / execution, fan engagement, consistency. Could go on and on but I know most of yall only gonna hear what yall wanna hear fr 🀝🏾

James Brown was the first Black American to own a private jet. The Learjet 23 was introduced in 1964 and he purchased one in 1966 for $713,000 to accommodate his rigorous touring schedule.

This has always been marketing. It’s just evolved into methods of the internet now instead of magazines, TV, radio, etc. β€œNondescript” because everyone wants to feel as if they’re the influence rather than just be fans / influenced today, because of social media culture.
was interviewed for this piece ab music marketing on here and the rising practice of labels paying accounts to promote artists in a nondescript way that seamlessly blends into the rest of their tweets, to not come across as ads to casual scrollers!! happens more than you think πŸ‘€

You need ~1.5 million streams / month to be making $6k passively. And that’s if you own 100% of it. Radio, sync, etc are different and I’m sure she made much more years ago. But assuming she didn’t write and produced it all herself, nor owns it outright. It’s not terrible.
How is she only making 5700 a month that doesn’t sound right

Also not considering any touring / appearances, merch, brand deals, etc. Revenue she can likely generate because of her status and historical value, which was built / invested into via a label or whatever entity’s funds back then. The notion that she’s β€œjust like us” not valid.
