Understanding the mechanics of drop splashing is valuable for improving technology in many fields. Research by @FluidsTom & @alfonsoacp 'Droplet splashing on curved substrates’ has been published in the Journal of Colloid & Interface Science eng.ox.ac.uk/news/insight-in…@OxfordFluids

We observe inertial behaviour for the coalescence (this GIF)/ stretching separation (GIF above) transition, with the latter outcome occurring only above a certain aspect ratio. Using this value as a criterion, we propose a simple but robust model to predict the transition.
A snapshot (one page) of our Drop Dynamics SIG meeting yesterday - thank you all for coming! It was great to see familiar faces and so many new ones! It was a truly international event! @RafaelCastrejon@FluidsTom@UKFluidsNetwork
Join us for a virtual @UKFluidsNetwork Drop Dynamics SIG meeting - Tuesday 29th June - featuring 8 speakers based in 5 countries. Inkjet, impact, surfactants, wetting and more! To join: forms.gle/fnkSCfWfrHtMfqik7 Open to all - register soon as capacity is limited! @EPSRC#DropsSIG
Meeting link has just been sent via email to those who filled in the form. All existing SIG members should have already have received the link last week.
We will be looking for a postdoc to work with us for six months on an experimental project combining fluids and molecular communications, starting ASAP. If you got the skills, please DM us! UK-based applicants only.
Pleasure to be invited to give @QMUL's Colloids and Interfaces Webinar today, about my PhD work on droplet coalescence/mixing. Slides available at tcsykes.com/talk/qmul-2021/
After giving it time to settle in, I am happy to say that I passed my PhD viva this morning!!
Big thank you to @CDTFluidsLeeds for giving me the opportunity to do my PhD with some great supervisors @ChthonicJon@ChrisDaviesGeo@StevenTobias7.
I couldn't have asked for better!
Very happy to share the news that Tom Sykes @FluidsTom is joining our group today! He is funded through a @royalsociety Enhancement grant and will be working on a variety of droplet-related topics. Welcome Tom!!
New season of Fluid Talks webinar series organised by our ECR Forum starts on 30 Sep. Now open to PhDs and postdocs in fluids from any institution! Register at tinyurl.com/FluidsTalks
