🚨NEW: Before Saturday’s game, LA Sparks coach Lynne Roberts called Kelsey Plum “the best one-on-one player in the league.” By the end of the night, Plum’s 43 points and dazzling fourth quarter turned her coach into a prophet, as the Sparks nabbed an OT win.

The points by the LA Sparks in the final 7:10 of regulation tonight:
- Kelsey Plum FTS (2)
- Kelsey Plum 3PT (5)
- Kelsey Plum FTS (7)
- Kelsey Plum 2PT (9)
- Kelsey Plum 3PT (12)
- Kelsey Plum 3PT (15)
- Kelsey Plum 2PT (17)
Plum’s final 12 tied or gave the Sparks the lead.
It is rare to see a coach opt to put in a new player to start overtime over the lineup that finished on the floor in regulation. But Lynne Roberts did it tonight, putting Cameron Brink in the game for the entire overtime period. Asked Roberts about that decision postgame:
Lynne Roberts: “I didn’t come to L.A. to rebuild or do some slow thing. I know [Kelsey Plum] didn’t, Nneka [Ogwumike] didn’t. Our front office has that in mind as well.”
Final/OT: Sparks 111, Mercury 102. Kelsey Plum will get the headlines, and rightfully so, but Cameron Brink, Nneka Ogwumike, and Rae Burrell all had lasting imprints on this one, as did the whole team. Plum scored a franchise-record-tying 43 points. Sparks are 7-6. What a game.
Cameron Brink has been trusted quite a bit here, as she started the overtime period over Dearica Hamby, and it’s a decision that has paid off by Lynne Roberts. Brink has changed this overtime defensively.
Kelsey Plum scored or assisted on the Sparks’ first 16 points of the game. She then scored their final 17 in the fourth quarter. There are offensive engines at the guard spot and then there’s Plum. A truly sensational and marvelous basketball player.
Natasha Mack got a sensational look to win the game in regulation. No dice. We are headed to overtime. It is 98-98 between the Sparks and Mercury. Kelsey Plum has 41 points, including 19 in the fourth. She scored the Sparks’ last 17 points in the quarter.
Oh my word this is some unreal hoops. Natasha Mack gets free on an inbounds pass with 1.3 on the shot clock and puts it in to give the Mercury a 98-96 lead on the Sparks with 12.2 left. And then Kelsey Plum ties it on a slot cut with 1.6 left! 98-98!
Kelsey Plum has 39 points. So, too, does Kahleah Copper. And both their teams have exactly 96 with 32.6 left. This is an incredible game between the Sparks and Mercury.
Kelsey Plum hit a huge 3 to tie the game, but then Kahleah Copper’s 6th triple puts the Mercury back in front of the Sparks 96-93. And then Plum answers. 96-96. This is an unreal showdown.
Rough sequence for the Sparks that ends in a Lexi Held 3-pointer to give the Mercury a 93-90 lead with 1:32 left. Sparks are going to need to pull this one out of the fire.
Sparks have surrendered a 6-0 run to the Mercury in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter, and their lead has been trimmed to 79-76. They’ll have to dig deep to pull this one out in the desert. Kahleah Copper has 28 for Phoenix.
