One of the most common questions we hear from travelers is: “When are you adding a nonstop flight to [x]?” Here’s a look at how new routes and airline service opportunities take shape at Norfolk International Airport. This week, Team ORF traveled to Chicago for Airports Council International–North America’s JumpStart 2026, an annual event that brings airports and airlines together to explore opportunities that could eventually lead to new nonstop destinations, or even new airline partners, for communities across the country. Decisions about where airlines fly are made well in advance and involve extensive research. Carriers evaluate everything from passenger demand and fare performance to aircraft availability and staffing resources. They also assess what a destination offers travelers, whether airport facilities can support their operational needs and if any regulatory challenges could impact a route’s viability. The process is highly strategic, with significant financial investments on the line. During the conference, Team ORF met with a variety of airline representatives, including several carriers that do not currently serve the Hampton Roads region. Many of the routes recently added to ORF’s network began with conversations at events like JumpStart, and we’re optimistic that the discussions taking place this week will help pave the way for future service additions. Tomorrow will mark two years since breaking ground on our International Arrivals facility and our Concourse A expansion — which have now both been open for a few weeks! Our U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) International Arrivals facility was designed in coordination with CBP to process international passengers. This 26,000-square-foot, two-story building also includes a Global Entry enrollment center at which travelers can complete their in-person interviews to join that time-saving trusted traveler program. The Concourse A expansion spans nearly 19,000 square feet over two stories, which gives travelers at gates A10, A11 and A12 an spacious seating area with floor-to-ceiling views of the airfield. The space’s center features two new food & beverage options – High Tide Bar Bites and Town Center Cold Pressed. We couldn't help but take a trip down memory lane. History takes flight at ORF! ✈️🇺🇸 We're proud to partner with the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation to showcase a special display celebrating VA250 and America250. The exhibit highlights the upcoming VA250 Signature Exhibition, "Give Me Liberty: Virginia & The Forging of a Nation", opening July 1 at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. As Virginia commemorates 250 years since the American Revolution, this display invites ORF travelers and visitors to explore the people, events and ideas that helped shape our nation’s founding. Be sure to stop by and experience this preview of one of Virginia’s landmark commemorative exhibitions, located at The Gallery at ORF in our Main Lobby. On display until early August.

Creativity at NSA is taking flight! Throughout June, artwork from our students will be on display at @FlyORF in the departures terminal, located on the second floor of the main lobby. If your travel plans take you through ORF this month, stop by and check out the exhibit!

Summer storms often lead aircraft to divert to ORF when they can't land at their intended destinations. This can bring airlines or aircraft types that we don't normally see to our gates and airfield. It's fun for plane spotters — and it also means our Airside Operations team is called into action to support these flights and help get them quickly back on their way.

Officers and Police Department employees were recently highlighted at the Norfolk Airport Authority Police Department's Recognition Award Ceremony in observance of National Police Week, which took place earlier this month. Honorees received awards for Medals of Valor, Distinguished Service, Meritorious Service and Police Commendation. The ceremony also introduced the Officer Moore Memorial Outstanding Service Award, recognizing exceptional dedication and commitment to service and named in honor of David Moore, a 15-year ORF police officer who unexpectedly passed away in December. We are proud to celebrate the professionalism, courage and dedication demonstrated by these outstanding individuals.
