oh! yeash! Congrats to Sam and Mary. They were the first 2 people that I employed in the lab, and they always worked together beautifully.
Congratulations to all of the 2022 JEB Outstanding Paper Prize shortlisted authors and Samuel Fabian @samueltfabian and Mary Sumner, the award winners from @FlySy_Lab, journals.biologists.com/jeb/…

Robber flies intercept their victims on the wing and now @samueltfabian and @FlySy_Lab have discovered that the aeronauts use a simultaneous combination of obstacle avoidance with their conventional interception strategy to bring down dinner journals.biologists.com/jeb/…

New open access paper out on the wonderful Gnat Ogre (Holcocephala fusca), with @FlySy_Lab, in @J_Exp_Biol . In it, you can find out how these tiny killers deal with physical obstacles on their way to hunt lunch on the wing. 1/6

Yes, 2020 is mad. But there is also great things: @DrKateFeller is starting as an Assitant Professor at union college!!!! Not only she is an incredible scientist, she is also an amazing artist. I will update with pics of this, most awesome lab present, on the lab wall.
Mantis shrimp male good life coaches. A little embroidered piece I made for for my mentor, friend, and colleague @FlySy_Lab Thanks for the memories! #mantisshrimp

Hey! 📢 Let's make the planned furloughs at the Uni fair. The proposed plan hits the lower earners the hardest (rate of cuts is highest for lowest earners). THIS IS NOT OK. There is an alternative 👇
Interesting observations on proposed faculty furloughs: 1) Rate of cuts increase faster for <$100K salaries than $100-300K range; 2) Median salary of plan creators is $220K. "Unflatten the curve" to save the same amount, but in a more equitable way. sites.google.com/umn.edu/unf…

jeb.biologists.org/content/2… Hamed Rajabi and colleagues suggest that flying insects exhibit a great resilience to wing injuries not only because wings have evolved to be damage tolerant but also because insects might compensate for wing damage by altering wing kinematics.
