We got to be a part of something pretty special last week! On Thursday, Mayor Hellmich and his copilot, Phil Webb, flew into Foley Municipal Airport from Gulf Shores with the city’s new historical artifact, a 1941 Naval N3N biplane. We helped escort the new plan to its new temporary home after its long flight from Long Islands, New York. We’re eager to see it one day on display!

🧫🔬 FORENSIC FRIDAY 🧬📸 We couldn’t go the entire week without recognizing National Forensic Science Week and our Crime Scene Technician, Olivia! Olivia joined Foley PD in March of this year and already has made her mark! As the Crime Scene Tech, Olivia processes crime scenes and overseas property and evidence from scenes, but more importantly, she brings life to the PD through her contagious laugh and dry sense of humor. We’re happy to honor you, Olivia. Thanks for all you do for Foley PD!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FOLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT SEPTEMBER 17, 2024 POC: LT. TONY FUQUA 251-952-4010 On September 17th at approximately 8:30 a.m., Foley Police responded to Foley Middle School for a report of a student making threatening remarks in the school. School Resource Officers immediately responded and detained the student in question. The school was placed on a lockdown until the incident could be fully investigated. A K9 Unit swept the school and the areas were searched with no weapons being located. A 13-year-old male student at the school was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct, after it was discovered that he told another student that he had a gun. Again, investigators did not locate any weapon at the school and have followed up with the student’s parents As stated earlier today, we would like to commend the students involved in bringing information about this situation forward. The students reported this in the right way by telling school staff of the situation. By following proper channels and allowing procedures to begin, the Foley Police Department was able to handle the threat swiftly and efficiently. The school is resuming with its normal schedule. Foley Police will continue to have a heavier presence on the school grounds until school is dismissed.

As mentioned last night, the Foley Police Department is continuously working to develop our new app that will easily provide information to the citizens of Foley. The app has features including the School Safety section to directly send tips on school-related incidents to our department and School Resource Officers, easy access to our Annual Report, push notifications to keep our community up-to-date with all Foley PD is involved in, and much more. The Foley Police Department app is free and able to be downloaded through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. apps.myocv.com/share/a977365… will send you directly to a downloading browser. Foley PD has been working on this app over the past year. Its simplicity and accessibility will be beneficial for the community.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FOLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT SEPTEMBER 15, 2024 POC: CHIEF THURSTON BULLOCK 251-952-4010 On Friday September 13, 2024, a fifteen-year-old female and a fifteen-year-old male were arrested and charged with Making a Terrorist Threat and Disorderly Conduct after it was discovered that both created two separate social media posts of a threatening nature, after Thursday's incident at Foley High School had already been resolved. The posts were shared and re-shared on numerous social media platforms and to a large number of people. These posts caused alarm and for students, parents, and faculty to fear for their safety, especially after Thursday's lockdown at the school. The school is taking disciplinary action as well. Parents, please talk to your kids. Not all speech (including social media posts) is protected when it crosses certain lines. There is a reason you cannot yell, "Fire!" in a crowded theater as the old example states. The person may have had no intent of actually starting a fire, nor was there ever an actual fire present, but by simply creating panic through words and inciting fear, chaos, and potential danger, it can cross that line. If anyone feels that there is information of any potential threats to our schools, please go through the proper channels and notify authorities immediately. We have a procedure in place for dealing with these situations. Students should notify a teacher or parent if they don't feel comfortable calling us and put it into the hands of someone that will handle it the right way. Putting something on social media is not reporting it properly and may not only be perceived as malicious, it will mostly likely create the wrong kind of reactions. It could even potentially tip off the individual and push them into action faster before police have time to investigate and potentially intercept the threat before they carry out their plan to harm. The Foley Police Department is working on an app to help make submitting a tip easier for our community. Students and parents will both have access to send school-related tips from the app that will go directly to our police department and the School Resource Officers. The app will allow for a quick and easy tip submission process. You can remain anonymous and will not need direct contact with an officer to submit.

Due to the events of yesterday and this morning, we did not get a chance to honor our women in blue on National Police Woman Day. We'd like to take today, a day late, to celebrate Officer Vick and Officer Williams for doing amazing work for the Foley Police Department. Ofc. Vick has been with the department for 8 years. She's worked in the Corrections Divisions, Patrol Division, and is currently in our Criminal Investigation Division. Ofc. Williams has worked for the department for 2 years. Prior to graduating the Police Academy in Selma last month, Williams worked as a Dispatcher in Foley PD's Communications Division for nearly two years. We appreciate the dedication both women have shown to this department and this community. Thank you Ofc. Vick and Ofc. Williams for the hard work and selfless sacrifices you make daily to keep the city of Foley safe and protected.

There are pictures circulating on social media and being distributed that are old photos not from today’s incident at Foley High School. In fact, some that we’ve seen are not even taken on the campus of Foley High School. We are currently on campus, along with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. The high school is secure and we are currently working on a reunification plan for you to pick up your student. We should have that information to you within the next 30 minutes. Please remember, confirmed information will be sent by us and the Baldwin County Board of Education. Rumors are not helping in this matter and we would appreciate you not participating and furthering the false information that is being spread. You will hear more from us shortly.
