Typography is one of the most important elements in graphic design. When we create our work digitally, fonts become a key part of the process. While creative software helps us bring our ideas to life, one of the most powerful (and often overlooked) tools in a designer’s toolkit is a font management app, something that helps us organise, discover, and stay in control of our type library. Looking for a smarter way to manage your fonts? Meet FontBase, a clean, fast, and powerful font manager that makes organising and activating your fonts effortless. In this quick video, I’ll give you a fast overview of FontBase, show you what it can do, and why it’s become a core part of my design workflow. Let’s jump in and see how this works! 👀 WATCH HERE: youtu.be/7rZrIdJK3Rw @FontBaseApp

Remember the IDEO font map? Well, it's gone and not available anymore for quite some time now. But guess who's doing a better (hopefully) version of it?

Font family page updates in FontBase! Here's what you may have missed: 1. Improved style selection. The select dropdown is now on top of the page. Double clicking a style now navigates to the Waterfall tab directly.

FontBase is a really cool program for syncing and managing fonts between systems. I can set up a Dropbox/Google Drive folder to store my fonts and access them across systems. Good stuff now that I'm working between multiple systems. fontba.se/

Currently we're working on an updated Glyphs page in FontBase. It will have glyph search, Unicode groups displayed, and work faster with lots of glyphs. What features would you like to see on the new Glyphs page?

A really short history of type. 🧵 Roman letters started as inscriptions carved in stone in 8th century BC. Romans adapted the Greek alphabet, creating the foundation for all Western scripts. These early letters had thick/thin strokes & serifs - still influencing type today.

Evolution continued: Transitional types (17th century) added more contrast, Baskerville's sharp forms were "shocking" in the 1700s, then came Baroque variations mixing roman & italic on same lines.

20th century: Sans-serif fonts emerged (no serifs, even thickness). Phototypesetting in the 1960s revolutionized production, leading to today's digital typography.
