Lifesaving support is on its way to some of South Sudan’s hardest-to-reach communities. With support from @OCHAFunds, ForAfrika has dispatched critical WASH and nutrition supplies to remote communities in the Pibor Administrative Area, where access to basic services is limited. The supplies, including nutrition commodities, hygiene materials, and essential WASH items, will help strengthen access to clean water, sanitation, hygiene, and lifesaving nutrition support for families in need. #SouthSudanHumanitarianFund

Across Africa, many girls still lack access to affordable menstrual products, clean water, and safe sanitation. Without these, a natural part of growing up becomes a barrier to education, causing girls to miss school or fall behind. Stigma and silence make it harder. Many girls are unprepared for their first period, facing confusion, embarrassment, and little support. In communities like Viendi in Angola, open conversations and access to hygiene kits are helping girls manage their periods with dignity and stay in school. Healthy, well‑nourished people are the cornerstone of a thriving continent. Yet hunger and undernutrition continue to undermine progress for millions across Africa. In seven of ForAfrika’s eight countries of operation, communities face IPC Phase 3 (Crisis) or worse levels of food insecurity. Families are forced into harmful coping strategies, malnutrition is widespread, and access to sufficient, nutritious food remains severely limited. Following the devastating floods in Benguela Province, Angola, rising malnutrition levels are leaving many families in urgent need of support. Smallholder farmers in Obongi District are proving that with the right support, farming can become more than survival. Through support from ForAfrika, funded by WFP and delivered in collaboration with Obongi District leadership, Upebaku Farmers Group has strengthened production, improved access to markets, and created new income opportunities for its members and the wider community. From irrigation equipment and quality seeds to a tricycle that now also generates transport income, this investment is helping farmers build more stable livelihoods. For members like Charles Adrawa, it has also opened the door to grow their own farming businesses with greater confidence. In May, ForAfrika South Sudan handed over garden fences to St. Joseph, Agok, and Emmy Robin Primary Schools to safeguard school crops from damage and support continuous food production. These gardens create safer spaces for learners to gain practical agricultural skills while strengthening nutrition and education outcomes. This support is part of ForAfrika South Sudan’s School Feeding Programme which aims to combat malnutrition, reduce school absenteeism and dropouts, and improve children’s cognitive development.

In Obongi District, access to quality agricultural inputs can make or break a farmer’s season. Amaruma Hussein saw this gap and started a small agro-input shop. With support from ForAfrika’s Agriculture Market Support project, he gained the training, resources, and confidence to grow his business, improve standards, and better serve his community. Today, his shop is more than a business. It connects farmers to the products and knowledge they need to improve their yields and livelihoods. With plans to expand even further, Hussein’s journey shows what is possible when young entrepreneurs are given the right support. In Gogrial, South Sudan, 25 farmers are turning opportunity into lasting change. For years, the Akut Cirot Ping Group struggled to access reliable markets for their groundnuts. Despite the effort, much of their harvest was sold at low prices or went to waste. With support from @WorldFoodProgramme and ForAfrika, that began to shift. The group received groundnut paste machines and transport support, enabling them to process and deliver higher-value products. Today, they supply nutritious groundnut paste to local schools through the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, creating a steady income while supporting children’s nutrition. Together, they have generated over SSP 5,200,000 in sales and are now reinvesting to grow their impact even further. 112 girls and young women in Kigali City and Kamonyi District now have a better chance to earn, save, and build a future. On 28 April 2026, ForAfrika Rwanda, in partnership with WE-ACTx for Hope and with funding from Gesundes Afrika, marked the successful closure and handover of the one-year pilot project dubbed, “Empowering Adolescent and Young Women through Income Generating Activities.” The project strengthened nine VSLA groups by improving savings, access to small loans, and opportunities for adolescent girls and young women to start or grow income-generating activities. Participants reported increased income and greater confidence in their ability to support themselves and contribute to their families. Local authorities commended the project’s impact and committed to sustaining its outcomes through continued support and collaboration, ensuring that the progress made continues beyond the pilot phase. Together, we are supporting young women to build skills, strengthen livelihoods, and be more resilient.

58% of people in Ethiopia still lack access to clean water. In Jaresso, that once meant hours spent walking to unsafe sources. Today, things are changing. Through ForAfrika and the Konso Development Association, over 2,000 households now have access to safe, solar-powered water. At the centre of it all is the Jaresso Water Committee, managing the system, maintaining it, and ensuring access for everyone, including those who cannot afford to pay. Access is closer, faster, and more reliable. Families have more time, and communities are seeing the impact on daily life.
