While celebrating the holidays our team was still on call. This girl found herself in an awful situation. She was found on the ground, picked up and put into a trash bag that was secured shut and tossed into the trash can. When she arrived she was dirty, severely emaciated
Itโs cleaning day for some of our foliage bats. Although they are quite sleepy, this will likely be the last time we deep clean their enclosure until late winter. Hibernation, or long torpor bouts are such an important physiological process that bats must undergo.
I would like to introduce you to one of the most incredible bats I've ever known: Otomops madagascariensis. This molossid species is an obligated cave-dwelling bat, endemic from Madagascar. Even holding it in my hands, it's hard to believe that it's real ๐ฆ

This little Hoary bat is a trooper! Heโs been fighting hard to get back to full health, and we are confident that his will-power is strong enough to push him through. Little buddy, weโre rooting for you. Youโll be back to flying out in the wild in no time
