I’m sat in my first Essex County Council meeting on Monday morning, listening to a councillor induction presentation.
‘Any questions?’ asks an officer.
A hand goes up.
‘Yes’ says a recently elected Labour member.
‘Do I get a pension as a councillor?’.
His first question was about how much money he gets. Not procedure, or meeting dates or where the loos are… but how much cash he can grab.
Same old Labour.

There is only one Labour councillor on Essex County Council, Cllr Lee Scordis. He has been a councillor for 9 years.
He did not attend the induction meeting.

Boris Johnson didn't pass vetting when Theresa May appointed him forgein secretary.
The media must have missed that one.

As someone who has been through and passed Developed Vetting, I can assure you that it is an incredibly rigorous (and expensive) process.
The professionals involved in our vetting work to the highest standards. Rightly so.
It is absolutely fundamental to our national security.
Overrule or ignore it because of cronyism and the whole system comes crashing down.

There is no evidence Boris Johnson failed vetting whilst Foreign Secretary.
Reports that information was withheld from Mr Johnson have been specifically denied.

People may think Everton's confirmed finish of 13th place means our final game of the season is a dead rubber. They are wrong, we now have the opportunity to stop the Geordies reaching the Champions League on their own turf. A fanbase that was looking forward to relegating us.
