A great simulation would be to swap the ages of all the drivers in the top 10. Make Hamilton 28 years old and make everyone else 41 years old. That question alone puts into perspective the significance of this Hamilton renaissance.

@SJ_Barrick told me a while back, and I never thought of it this way, about how Cricket batsmen lose their eye with age. You see that same thing around in other sports too. And there’s no escaping it - I believe Hamilton has showed signs of that, as has Alonso - although the consequences can be minuscule at times.

How would I put this in F1 terms? Well, this is essentially when the world around you moves quicker than your brain can keep up with. In cricket as a batsman this is quite straightforward to make the link. Earlier this year, I somewhat found a similar link. That is, the ability of judging speed going into a corner. You may think that body feeling of carrying as much speed towards an apex is normal, but it’s going slower than you think.

Hamilton’s middle sector was utterly ridiculous. He did a 30.009 Before that, he’d not gone below 30.5 Went half a second faster in one sector than he’d gone all weekend. The King is back 👑

The FIA are weak man 😂😂
Alpine are correct but the FIA cannot budge here. I know this is not what Alpine/Gasly did in Monaco, but Alpine winning this appeal will simply encourage teams and drivers to not serve penalties during the race and just appeal them once it’s all said and done. Had Russell simply just not served his drive through (for not serving the original penalty) - we are green-lighting the message that they could’ve lodged an appeal, won it and taken the podium 5 days later. Referee mistakes happen in sport - Alpine and everyone else needs to move on. Like the rest of the unfairly punished did.

Antonelli skipped F3 and went straight to F2 alongside Bearman as his teammate and was simply quicker immediately, despite the steep learning curve. We see how good Bearman is, and Antonelli is just that tad quicker so it’s no surprise to see his immense success now. Grandpa needs to wake up
Alonso: "Antonelli? Questa era è diversa rispetto alla mia. La tecnologia aiuta, ci sono i simulatori. Lui è un talento incredibile anche se nelle junior formula è stato più altalenante. Bearman, a fianco a me, ha fatto meglio di lui. Ora ha una macchina dominante". #F1 #BarcelonaGP

🚨 Alpine has won its right of review launched following the Monaco GP. FOM provided evidence that "the distance used in calculating the F1 Official Timing (and hence the pit lane speed) was inaccurate and overestimated the speed of Car 10” The hearing is happening now.

Right here it is. Honestly it’s such a small thing that it shouldn’t even be talked about - but here we are. I’ve also got a clip of Karun and Bernie talking about brakes, so stay tuned. When HAM joined Mercedes in 2013, they had a full Brembo system which both ROS and MSC used. HAM eventually got his switch to CI around July but ROS kept his normal brakes from before. Come 2014, drivers were faced with a free choice of both and after testing both extensively, both actually preferred the CI brakes for the majority of 2014. They one time they didn’t, it was actually Hamilton - not Rosberg - who chose Brembo discs for the 2014 German GP. What happened? He had a brake failure in qualifying, Brembo released yet another dodgy PR statement and Hamilton switched back to CI for the race - starting from the pits. According to Rosberg, he preferred the feel and the temperature management of the CI brakes so never changed them. Fast-forward 2015, all of a sudden, Rosberg starts complaining about the brakes he’s been using for 18 months, the same ones which took him to a title decider and won the pole trophy in 2014. This irritates Hamilton at the Hungarian GP qualifying - claiming Rosberg was only complaining because he was 0.5s off the pace, and that his brakes were “fine when he was winning in Austria”. So there was a slight misconception from my side initially - Rosberg actually preferred CI themselves once Hamilton started running them. And from then on - it’s unknown whether Rosberg switched back to Brembo or not. I can’t find any information about it, sadly.
Oh I have some more tea about this little story…👇

3/4 Now, why does this combination work for Hamilton, but didn’t work for Rosberg for instance? Fast-forward to Hungary 2015 - where Hamilton and Rosberg had a somewhat heated exchange in the press conference about the brakes. Rosberg adopted Hamilton’s discs for various portions in an attempt to match Hamilton’s braking performance, to no avail. Rosberg complained but Hamilton clapped back, saying “he felt perfectly fine on the brakes in Austria, just to let you know”. In 2021, Rosberg detailed Hamilton’s technique of “feeding in the brake pedal” versus the traditional “stomp on the brakes and trail off” style he used. When Rosberg used Hamilton’s CI brakes, the greater stopping power and stiffer pedal caused him to consistently lock the front tyres with no solution - and his old Brembo discs were not powerful enough to match Hamilton’s braking performance, so it was a lose-lose.

It should be noted, brake changes should have absolutely nothing to do with “adapting” - as every driver has the right to use whatever brakes they like. As someone who’s assembled braking systems on an F1 car, they are a very customisable component - particularly the choice of disc and type of material. Most drivers can pick they like. Most drivers opt for Brembo, but notable exceptions include: Hamilton - CI Alonso - Hitco Grosjean - CI Most teams these drivers drove for, ended up splitting brake supplier at some point. If you watch cricket, I liken it to choice of cricket bat. Ferrari - however - have historically forced their drivers to use Brembo because of their exclusive contract. In any other team - as we saw with McLaren and Mercedes - Hamilton would never have used Brembo discs in the first place. There were just a few hurdles in the way of getting his way - independent of what his teammate(s) have historically gone for - and what choices they make (ALO, BUT, ROS, RUS, LEC) are not in his control.

Right - here is the awaited thread on Hamilton’s brakes. It’s a long story, so be patient 🧵: I’ll start by saying, in F1 there are a few major components that make up braking systems. These are the discs, the callipers, the master cylinder as well as the pedal setup (stiffness, modulation). Every F1 driver has a unique preferred setup regarding these components - and Hamilton’s was to use Brembo callipers (supplied to all teams) mixed with discs and the master cylinder from Carbone Industrie. He used these at McLaren, and when he moved to Mercedes in 2013 he initially adopted a full Brembo system which he initially struggled with. Why? This is where it gets interesting, and what you see in 2026 is quite similar. CI discs are much larger and more powerful than Brembo discs. A lot more powerful, so much so that for 6 months Brembo were unable to replicate this on Hamilton’s 2013 Mercedes - that he made the switch to CI and the rest was history

Rana, I need your help. What is Lewis's career history with brake suppliers? It's so difficult to research this. Remember the big hoopla 2013/14 about him struggling to adjust to Brembos?

Now, onto 2026. According to reports, Hamilton has pushed for his normal brakes to be used on his car since the day he arrived, but this process seemed to take nearly 18 months. Essentially, Hamilton was left using Sainz’s brakes in 2025 and could only make minor adjustments due to the cost-cap and the focus on 2026 (according to Brembo themselves). In terms of what the CI brakes are doing to the car, as mentioned above, the more powerful discs no doubt play a role in giving him those front tyre temps he is so sensitive about. Here’s where it gets interesting - will it solve Leclerc’s issues? Well, if the issues stem purely from the brake system themselves - he’ll swiftly have those issues eradicated at Barcelona. However, Hamilton is the only driver to use CI discs on the current grid, and his choice comes from 20 years of feedback, honing in a style he developed when he was coming through the ranks. Simply taking his brakes and getting them to work without the nuance of how they were developed is no easy task - and a dangerous rabbit hole t fall into if not careful.

Just for reference, McLaren had Akebono callipers at the time, not Brembo callipers. I knew Akebono supplied something but couldn’t remember what exactly💀
If you mean Hamilton used Brembo calipers at McLaren that's not true. He used akebono calipers and pads right up until he left the team. Although the discs were CI I believe...
