Seaport’s latest boondoggle is now open. Developer won a Massport RFP for a 600 ksf office tower, promising a 60 ksf “Waterfront Cultural Center.” That bait-and-switch evaporated in silence. In its place? A pedestrian ramp to an island in Seaport’s most dangerous intersection.

[Exciting new for Boston IMO. Berkeley ranks among the most creative developers that our community has worked w/ over the past few decades.] As other investors back away from Boston real estate, this big German group is jumping in bostonglobe.com/2026/06/14/b… @bycathcarlock

Boston Media: “Weeks of infighting.” Relax. It was a disagreement over managing a block of Summer St. As it appears, the City of Boston had the lion’s share of the work on the closure and possibly costs. The City (most noticeably BPD and Public Works) carried it off admirably.
Line at South Station goes up to Dot Ave, then wraps around the Fed back to Atlantic Ave. Crowds queued up are having a blast with cheers. BPD is doing an amazing job.

Councilor @ruthzee has spoken eloquently about “grief and joy.” Delighted to see this extraordinary Councilor experiencing joy today, like this. I love both countries playing tonight, but my ❤️ will be with Haiti. Photo by @universalhub on Bluesky.

As I recall, the Globe failed to report that Josh Kraft’s campaign paid local influencers to promote him. I repeatedly documented and posted receipts. To its credit, the Globe reports on this phenomenon today. But no mention of Josh Kraft. bostonglobe.com/2026/06/13/n…

In all seriousness, how does one trust reporting when there’s no account of how Clr. FitzGerald compiled a package w/o violating Open Meeting Laws? Or how *multiple* videos captured vote-wrangling during recesses. Only so-called “loyalists” wrangle votes? dotnews.com/2026/06/13/city-…

Community policing looks a bit different when the @FIFAWorldCup is in town! Our officers celebrated alongside fans, both international and local, during Day 1 of @FWC26Boston Fan Fest on City Hall Plaza!

ICA gets five Chapter 91 Gold Stars from me today. ICA: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Why? Free public viewing of World Cup at ICA. Emphasis on “free” and “public.” Over recent years, ICA has stepped up its Ch91 game. I love ICA, but that wasn’t always the case. icaboston.org/events/ica-x-b…

At newly-opened Comm Pier, a commitment to 40,000 sf of Chapter 91 civic/cultural space was whittled down to ~5,000 sf. Fidelity and DEP decided to limit tenancy of the deeply-subsided cultural space by biasing an RFI process toward nonprofits promoting financial literacy. 🤔
On what seems like a limited programming budget, Massport’s Program Mgr has done well w/ the Fish & Farm Market, accompanied by presumably low-cost live music. Meanwhile. at 401 Congress and Comm Pier (Fidelity), significant civic and cultural commitments quietly evaporated.

Summer Street block at South Station eastbound is closed this morning, with Jersey barriers installed on the median, presumably to protect World Cup fans. South Station exit on I-93 traveling Southbound (into Boston) is closed.

Today: Massport Fish & Farm Market
Massport's summer Fish & Farm Market on Fish Pier has a respectable lineup. 👍🏽 The agency's terrific Project Manager is stepping up free, public activities in Seaport. 👍🏽 My one critique: The programming itself could use a funding injection. massport.com/community/event…

Gallery at 300 Summer St has opened after a lengthy hiatus. 🔥 SCOOP: A restaurant/cafe will be opening at 300 Summer St next to the gallery, in the space occupied at least a decade ago by Channel Cafe. Sounds incredible, local owner, very neighborhood focused. 🔥 Stay tuned!

Checking out the new cycle lanes and widened sidewalks on A Street. 🔥 The larger Congress St Reconstruction Project includes protected lanes, widened sidewalks and much more. BTD, Public Works, BPDA, ONS and Mayor Wu’s team get BONUS POINTS for their resolve earlier this year.

And excuse my language below (Reply to George Orwell: “STFU.”), but if you’re wondering why public discourse is increasingly coarse, or why political views are polarized, maybe start by examining how expressions of control and authority play out over time?
A honking surveillance system is being installed on Harborwalk by 15 Necco dev/owners Nat Dev and ARE (and/or tenant Lilly). George Orwell wrote a comment letter about societal impacts but everyone in a position of responsibility said “STFU. Society is doing just fine, relax.”

Today is @TheFreedomTrail's 75th birthday! The original idea for the trail came from Bill Schofield, a Boston Herald-Traveler writer, and Bob Winn, a member of the Old North Church, both of whom noticed the need for a clearer wayfinding tool for visiting Boston's historic sites.
