Strong neighborhoods start with strong connections. I was proud to join the Foellinger Foundation in awarding grants to 12 neighborhoods that will help bring neighbors together through fun, learning, and community-building activities.

The conversations surrounding the Anchor Resource Center reflect how much our residents care about our community. It's also important that residents have access to accurate information. I welcomed the opportunity to respond to several topics being discussed on social media and help provide clarity.

Trails help connect our community in meaningful ways. This afternoon, I was proud to help cut the ribbon on the new Hanna Street Trail. This 4.5-mile trail will invite thousands of residents to new opportunities across our city. The cherry on top was the opening of the James Redmond Trailhead, honoring a longtime champion of trails in southeast Fort Wayne.

No child should ever go hungry. Thanks to @FWCommSchools and @ACPL, local children will once again have access to free meals all summer long. From June 1 through July 31, eight library locations across our community will provide free lunches and snacks on weekdays. I was grateful to help kick off the program today and thankful for both organizations for continuing to step up for our children and families. Programs like this make a real difference and show what’s possible when our community comes together to support one another.

Since taking office, I’ve had hundreds of conversations with business and nonprofit leaders, property owners, law enforcement, service providers, and residents about the need to address homelessness in our community, particularly in downtown Fort Wayne. Our team has studied best practices, visited other cities, and worked closely with local partners to develop a thoughtful approach. Today, I’m grateful to announce that philanthropic leaders are showing confidence in this vision by investing $2.26 million to support the creation of a low-barrier resource center. The newly formed Anchor Resource Center nonprofit will lease the building from the City of Fort Wayne and provide coordinated services that connect individuals experiencing homelessness with housing, job training and employment opportunities, as well as mental and physical healthcare. The work begins now to improve the lives of residents who need us.

We’ve believed in Fort Wayne’s future for a long time. This ranking is the result of forward thinking, taking chances, and a community that continues to believe in itself. Fort Wayne has always been special. Now the rest of the Midwest is starting to see it, too.

This morning, I had the honor of recognizing 12 firefighters from the Fort Wayne Fire Department with the Unit Commendation Recognition Award for their heroic efforts in rescuing a resident and family pet from a second-story window earlier this year. We’re incredibly grateful as a community for the bravery, quick thinking, and teamwork demonstrated every day by our firefighters.

Listening to our youth matters to me because their voices help shape the future of our city. I had a great time visiting Memorial Park Middle School this morning, talking with students and hearing directly from them about the issues that matter most. I also had the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic performance from the 78 Edition Show Choir!

From the classroom to competition, Fort Wayne’s high schools are producing champions. I had a great time visiting Homestead and Carroll today to celebrate their recent state championships. Congratulations to the players, coaches, and families who made it happen!

Hard to beat a field trip day. It was a fun afternoon hosting a kindergarten class from Canterbury School and recognizing them as honorary city employees with their own badges.

Over the weekend, I wrote an editorial in @JGfortwayne about the need for lasting, meaningful solutions to support our unhoused residents. By working closely with several community partners, we are making real progress toward opening a 24/7 homeless resource center. Read my article here: bit.ly/4vNotfa
