Since taking office, I’ve had hundreds of conversations with business and nonprofit leaders, property owners, law enforcement, service providers, and residents about the need to address homelessness in our community, particularly in downtown Fort Wayne. Our team has studied best practices, visited other cities, and worked closely with local partners to develop a thoughtful approach.
Today, I’m grateful to announce that philanthropic leaders are showing confidence in this vision by investing $2.26 million to support the creation of a low-barrier resource center.
The newly formed Anchor Resource Center nonprofit will lease the building from the City of Fort Wayne and provide coordinated services that connect individuals experiencing homelessness with housing, job training and employment opportunities, as well as mental and physical healthcare.
The work begins now to improve the lives of residents who need us.
