It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of our beloved “Queen of Fort Erie,” jockey Francine Villeneuve. A trailblazing pioneer, fierce competitor, and true ambassador of our sport, Francine will never be forgotten at Fort Erie Race Track. She etched her name in the record books by securing her 1,000th career win on our track; a milestone that cemented her legacy as the first Canadian female jockey to reach that extraordinary mark. Her grace, determination, and love for the game inspired generations of riders and fans alike. Rest in peace, Francine. You will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.

The Fort Erie Race Track team mourns the passing of legendary trainer Gil Rowntree, a true icon of Canadian horse racing. Gil’s connection to Fort Erie was special — he saddled multiple Prince of Wales Stakes winners on our historic track, etching his name into our record books and thrilling fans for decades with his skill, class, and dedication to the sport. His legacy will forever be part of the heart and soul of Fort Erie Race Track. Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire racing community.
