Russian airports grind to a halt due to snowfall: passengers on the brink
At Domodedovo, a plane got stuck in a snowdrift and was unable to take off.
The airport is literally buried under snow: specialised equipment can’t cope, and staff have been sent to clear runways with shovels.
Meanwhile, Sheremetyevo is facing mass delays and flight cancellations. Disruptions began after 8:00 p.m. and are still ongoing.
Aeroflot passengers complain of a collapse in flight handling. People are stuck on planes for hours after landing — no jet bridges, no possibility to disembark.
Over the loudspeakers, officials announce a “non-standard situation”, but give no timelines.
Baggage is a separate hell — suitcases haven’t been delivered for more than 5–6 hours. There are reports of scuffles with airport staff.
At the same time, Sheremetyevo insists the airport is “operating normally” and that the “situation is under control”.
On the ground, it looks slightly different.
