Dad, husband, golfer. USAF brat. Vanderbilt & Stanford Alum. Bell Labs & Microsoft techie. US vs Microsoft overseer. Sox & Pats fan. ❤️ WV, Lake Winnipesakee.
My wife and I played golf yesterday with my dad, a Vietnam vet and my first golf instructor, on a USAF base course in Athens, Greece when I was a boy. We had not seen Dad in person since 2019. As he nears 90 years old, it is a great privilege to be able to play golf together.
Always remembered. Benjamin Franklin “Frank” Fite, my gr-gr-grandfather and namesake, killed at the Battle of Missionary Ridge, 11/25/1863, fighting for Ohio and The Union.
Happy Mother’s Day to my mom. We’re here in Athens Greece while my Dad was doing his USAF pilot thing. (I’m far right in the pic.) He went to fight in Vietnam after this.
My mom was a brilliant teacher and English literature professor. We spent many a night discussing Thomas Hardy. I miss her terribly.
It’s an amazingly beautiful day at the greatest venue in college football. The lake and the mountains are crystal clear. The pictures don’t do it justice.
Yesterday we said goodbye to our Old English Sheepdog Bailey at almost 14 years old. Bailey led a great life, surrounded by family from start to finish. She loved her people, balls, and our Whoodle Molly, whom she took on as her own puppy 5 years ago. Sweet dreams, Bailey.
Happy Veterans Day to all who served, including my sister Susan and her husband Steve and my brother Rich. And, most of all, Happy Veterans Day to my father and namesake Frank Fite, LTCol (ret) USAF, shown here flying into Danang Vietnam during the war. He’s 93 now; thanks Dad
I was a big hit with the crowd in the other Washington tonight wearing Seahawks gear. (The few times the announcer got to say “Washington did something good”, I kept thinking it was the Huskies 😂.) Great time with family and fun watching the Seahawks route the Commanders.
We had already left before Daniels was injured. Really sorry to hear about that.
I worked at Microsoft in the 90s. I distinctly remember in 1992 an engineer in my team showing me this thing called a website. It blew my mind. I was in research doing other things, but my friend Ben Slivka recognized the importance of the web almost immediately. He led (or tried to lead) MSFT to the online world.
I’m thinking about this on the 30th anniversary of Windows 95. So many great memories from that time. I’ve been fortunate to work at the most influential tech company of the 70s/80s (and before) - Bell Labs - and the 90s, Microsoft.
If any of my golf twitter friends see this: if I am playing clubs with shafts that are too “whippy” for me - like senior flex if I should have regular flex - what would I see in terms of ball flight and distance as opposed to playing clubs with the correct flex?
I’m going to the Red Sox vs Mariners game here in Seattle tomorrow night. As a Sox fan since 1967, it’ll be the earliest game I’ve ever seen where the Sox have already given up on the season. Trading their best player - Devers - at this point is unprecedented, I think.
