I like what the Rangers are doing, but they are going to need 3 things to really have a chance.
1) Bonafide 8th or 9th inning RP
2) SP for the Postseason

Enjoying the Dak QB discussion. I love the Marino & Elway argument. Marino played in 3 AFC Championship games & Elway 6 total. When your QB plays in multiple Championship games you have a chance. The problem with Dak - he has yet to reach that lvl @1053SS @BobbyBeltTX @rjchoppy

Ben says “Pray you draft a Top 7 guy” Ignoring the fact that if you look at the History of the SB winning QBs that is EXACTLY what the team did. Almost (I said Almost) every SB winning team drafted a Top 4/Generational talented QB and instantly became SB contenders &or champs.

OK, even if that’s true. If you’re a top 7 QB, and your contract is up, you’re probably about to become the highest paid human in league history. And if you’re an organization that thinks, “He’s just the 8th best QB, we need a Top 7 guy.” The best way to land a Top 7 QB is to tear it all down, tank for 3-5 years, and completely rebuild. And pray to footballgod that the QB you draft is a Top 7 guy.
Oh BTW, you now also have to reconstruct your entire roster around him. That seems like a lot to me with no guarantee you can do better than what you already have.
This team is merely a few smart moves away from contending. MLB, DT, OL. Dak is one of the best things the Cowboys have going for them — he’s not the problem. Shocking to me how so many smart people don’t see it that way. Rarely am I the reasonable one.

It doesn’t mean it is a guaranteed process. There will be Ryan Leafs and Kyle Murrays etc. There will be plenty of failed drafted QBs. There are only 3 or 4 maybe 5 that are elite enough to win a SB in a given year. But you have to find that guy and keep drafting until you do so.

But this idea that I can take my ‘pretty good guy’ and I’ll just build a team around him and he should be good enough to win a SB - Oh and I’ll make him the highest paid player in the NFL because ‘that’s just the way it is’ nonsense … Yea, tell how thats working out.

I know Dak is better than the Giants & Wash. I know Dak can beat the Pats or Carolina. I know Dak can win 10-12 games agains the mid/bad teams. I also know when he plays Buffalo, KC, SF or any team in the Playoffs - he’ll play his worst game until garbage time. I expect it.

Dak could throw for 10,000 yards and 60 TD’s next year and nobody will believe he’ll have a good playoff game ever. And I wouldn’t blame them. Playoffs and Dak don’t mix.

If you keep Duran he has INF/OF versatility. Keep Carter & Langford & you’re set with the rest of the youth on this team. Everyone else is available.

Jamey, you can add a SP & bullpen arm far cheaper at the deadline. If the Rangers want Ohtani - go all in on him in the offseason. That’s the smarter play.
