The one thing that changed my life as a content creator: The art of storytelling You can take any generic concept like making a sonic 3 movie poster, and write an engaging story behind it to turn it viral You could follow any story telling format, but the goal is to take the viewer through a journey - Three act structure - Freytag’s Pyramid - Five-Act Structure - Hero’s journey Etc It’s easier to lead a viewer throughout a video with good editing and retention when your idea has structure, and purpose Don’t sleep on telling stories on YouTube

If you do anything as a designer, editor, or content creator this summer: Go easy on yourself This job can take a lot of time and require a lot of brain power It’s easy to forget that the summer is meant to breathe a bit and go outside There’s always going to be opportunities waiting, so put your mental health first!

Replying to @Frxstify
@Frxstify and @jximedesigns are the best posters designers I've seen, their work focuses on every detail of the poster which makes it almost perfect, because nothing is perfect🤝

This thumbnail helped me hit 100K views and it's so simple Hollywood poster on the left, mine pixelated on the right with a question mark, arrow connecting them It works because it does 3 things at once, shows the viewer what they already know (the Hollywood poster), creates a curiosity gap (what does mine look like?), and adds stakes (is it actually better?) You don’t need 15 elements to make a good thumbnail, you just need one clear question displayed in the simplest way possible

Something most creators don't think about but should: Every single video idea has a view bucket, which is basically the maximum number of people who could possibly care about that topic A video about sonic the hedgehog has a big view bucket because sonic's audience is huge A video about reviewing an obscure 2009 Maytag dishwasher model has a way smaller one, because there isn’t a lot of people that idea appeals to! Before you film anything ask yourself how big is the view bucket for YOUR idea, assess your goals, what you are targeting etc Thats a huge step forward for creating with intention

One of the biggest mistakes I see small creators make: They copy a format from a big creator without understanding WHY that format works Someone will recreate a MrBeast thumbnail/title but they won’t understand why MrBeast’s version was effective in the first place If you don’t understand the psychology behind why something works you can’t adapt it, you can’t improve on it, and you definitely can’t make it your own Study the WHY not just the WHAT

Somebody reading this right now has the talent to be the best designer, editor, or creator in their entire niche and they know it Deep down, past the self-doubt and the imposter syndrome and the comparison spiral they KNOW they have something But they’re playing small, posting safe work, charging safe rates, staying in safe circles Because going all in means there’s no one to blame if it doesn’t work out except themselves This is your wake-up call, stop playing small You were not built for safe, you were built for the version of your career that scares you Go build that one

Reminder for my designers, editors, and content creators: You are allowed to be proud of work that didn’t perform well Performance is determined by algorithms, timing, and audience size Quality is determined by skill, taste, and intention Those are two completely separate measurements and conflating them will destroy your relationship with your own creativity Some of the best work you’ll ever make will get 40 likes, that doesn’t make it less great! Judge your work by what you put into it not by what the internet gave back

To every creative who has ever cried, stressed, lost sleep, or questioned everything over this career: That's not a sign you chose wrong, that's a sign you chose something you care about deeply enough to feel pain over People don't lose sleep over things that don't matter to them The fact that this career makes you emotional isn't a red flag, It's proof that you're fully invested And fully invested people are the ones who build things that last Feel the feelings, then get back to work Both are part of the process!
