If a player doesn't want to play, no amount of money will convince him to, it is just an excuse.
Because, he literally doesn't care, right?
🇺🇸 Hikaru Nakamura: "We are one decade later and the amount of money you get is exactly the same"
Hikaru Nakamura on why he won't play in the 2026 Olympiad:
"The offer to play the Olympiad was $10,000. Or sorry, $10,500 I believe is what it was. The bonus if you win a gold medal is $4,000. That's it. When I played the Olympiad in 2016, I believe it was in Baku, we won the gold medal and you know what the bonus was? It was $4,000."
"We are one decade later and the amount of money you get is exactly the same as it was 10 years ago. I don't know if people have heard but there's this thing called inflation... third world countries pay their players better, no kidding. It's legitimately the same bonus that it was 10 years ago."
"To answer all the questions that you guys are asking, for the Olympiad I don't intend to play."
