#BudgetVote| Through the air-wing, crime prevention operations were conducted. These operations contributed to the prevention of armed robberies, the disruption of illegal mining activities, arrests linked to house robberies, interventions targeting hijacked buildings and the recovery of stolen vehicles. - A significant milestone was the successful acquisition of a Remote Operating Certificate from the South African Civil Aviation Authority, paving the way for the deployment of 38 drones across the province's crime prevention corridors during the 2026/27 financial year. - The Department also established an Interim Command Centre pending the finalisation of the Provincial Integrated Command Centre. #GrowingASaferGauteng

#BudgetVote| In strengthening the implementation of the six pillars of the National Strategic Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, the The Department continued implementing prevention, victim support, justice system strengthening and community mobilisation programmes aimed at combating GBVF. As part of the 2025–2030 Service Delivery Improvement Plan, pedestrian safety has been identified as a key area requiring focused intervention. Increased resources and operational attention have therefore been directed towards reducing pedestrian fatalities, which continue to account for a significant proportion of road deaths within the province. #GrowingASaferGauteng

Internal workshop on the GFIP Gantry Repurposing The Gauteng Department of Community Safety Acting Head of Department, Mr Roche Mogorosi, is today leading an internal, strategic workshop on the repurposing of the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) Gantries. The workshop is focusing on opportunities to repurpose the former e-Toll Gantry infrastructure in support of technology driven initiatives to enhance public safety efforts across the province. The workshop provides stakeholders with a comprehensive status update on the GFIP and explores innovative approaches to maximise the value of the existing infrastructure. #GrowingASaferGauteng

Internal workshop of the GFIP Gantry Repurposing Key discussions of the workshop include benchmarking on alternative use cases for toll infrastructure both locally and internationally, assessing the integration of law enforcement applications, and identifying opportunities to strengthen law enforcement initiatives. Stakeholders further examined governance considerations amongst other things associated with the repurposing of the e-Toll gantries. The engagements sought to ensure that any future utilisation of the infrastructure is sustainable, legally compliant and aligned with broader provincial priorities. The initiative is aligned with the Gauteng Provincial Government’s commitment to building a safer, smarter and more capable province. #GrowingASaferGauteng

Integrated Learner Transport Operation in the Western Corridor Law enforcement agencies comprising of the South African Police Service, Gauteng Traffic Police amongst other stakeholders conducted a road safety operation aimed at ensuring compliance of learner transport operators in the Western corridor. The operation yielded 31 fines which were issued to the value of R14700, while four GP460 fines were issued for unroadworthy vehicles and and overloading. Furthermore, three illegal immigrants have been arrested. The officials targeted schools including: - Phahama Combined School - Lukhaya High School - Malerato Primary School - AB Phokomphe High School - Thutolehakoe Secondary School This operation forms part of the provincial government’s efforts to ensure the safety of learners as they travel to and from school daily. #GrowingASaferGauteng
