Olympic silver medalist Maria Andrejczyk did something few champions ever would.
After winning silver at the 2020 Summer Olympics, she auctioned her medal to help pay for a baby’s life-saving heart surgery.
The child, an 8-month-old boy named Miłoszek, needed treatment at Stanford University Medical Center that his family couldn’t afford.
The auction raised about $125,000.
But when the winning bidder — Polish convenience store chain Żabka — learned why she sold it, they did something unexpected.
They paid the full amount… and gave the Olympic medal back to her.
Andrejczyk had finished just 2 centimeters off the podium at the 2016 Summer Olympics before finally winning silver in Tokyo.
Years of chasing a medal… and she was willing to give it away to save a child.
Some victories don’t happen in a stadium. 🥈❤️
